Nic & Norman’s — a Southern-inspired restaurant by Norman Reedus + Greg Nicotero — is now open at 1 Augusta St., the prominent building that sits at the gateway to Greenville’s West End. ICYMI, Smoke on the Water closed in March and plans to move to Pelham Road.
Right now, the new eatery is reservation-only. Keep an eye on Open Table for availability + social media for an opening date for walk-ins.
From TV to the kitchen
Recognize the names? The duo behind Nic & Norman’s met on set of “The Walking Dead” and this is their fifth restaurant. Reedus is known for playing Daryl Dixon in front of the camera, and Nicotero was the special effects makeup artist on the show.
The concept began as a hang out spot for the cast and crew in Senoia, GA (where the show was filmed). Now, the Greenville location joins restaurants in Louisville + Lexington, KY and Chattanooga, TN.
The space
Get ready for some changes to the building you’ve dined at over the past two decades. The bar and the front entrance moved the main dining area in the back. Plus, there are plans to utilize the space outside the restaurant.
The eatery has a “speakeasy” feel with dark wood, cozy colors, and stunning chandeliers. Plus, you’ll find photography and art on the walls with some familiar faces for “The Walking Dead” fans.
The menu
We’re not sure what to order first.

The food is Southern-inspired serving lunch, dinner, and brunch (on the weekends). The cocktail menu continues the “speakeasy” vibe and you can also sip on beer + wine.
From a full lineup of burgers to flat breads and apps, there’s something for everyone on this menu. Plus, the entree list is filled with comfort food favorites like shrimp and grit cakes, homestyle meatloaf, and the Coca-Cola braised pork shank.

🎨 How local students are using art to connect with complex topics
When students visually create the meaning of a topic, there is often an “aha” moment, Perkins explained. | Photos provided by the Metropolitan Arts Council
Last school year, SmartARTS teaching artist Sunny M. McGowan and League Academy history teacher Karen Perkins collaborated to bring the Bill of Rights to life through arts integration.
Each student picked an amendment that resonated with them and wrote about its importance, including why it’s still needed — andthat was just the beginning. With McGowan’s guidance, students created symbols representing these amendments by creating art prints from a carving (think: soft linoleum + a brayer to roll out ink).
That’s how the Metropolitan Arts Council’s SmartARTS program works — students, teachers, and artists integrate arts into the core curriculum, enriching learning experiences at participating schools.
“I love SmartARTS; it’s the best thing for these kids,” Perkins said. “The children that are having a hard time academically excel once the arts are brought in; it helps them make connections.”
SC declared a state of emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Debby, which could bring historic rainfall. The National Weather Service says 10-20 inches of rain could fall along the coast, which would be comparable to the Thousand-Year Flood in 2015. In the Upstate, meteorologists are forecasting “marginal impacts” with 1-3 inches of rain. (The Post and Courier + WYFF 4)

Be the broker: What should go in the Runway Café space at Greenville Downtown Airport?
Be the broker: What should go into Runway Café at Greenville Downtown Airport?
We can think of a few restaurants that could be pretty fly. | Photo via Runway Cafe
When Runway Café’s lease ends at the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) in May 2025, we could see a new concept go in its place.
We asked what you want to see go there. We think your ideas are pretty fly:
“I think it should be a sandwich shop called Air & Sea (Air for the airport/planes and Sea for selling subs). They could have sandwiches called ‘The Amelia Earhart’ and ‘The Down Periscope.’” — Steve P.
“Something similar to Southernside Brewing or 13 Stripes River Lodge. Watch airplanes while you eat and have a drink. A trendy, Instagrammable destination for pilots and passengers to eat after they land in Greenville serving beer, wine, and cocktails. Obviously, it needs to be kid-friendly, but not kid-centric.” — Lee G.
Many of you also replied you’d love to see Runway Café stay, and the airport tells us the current operators are able to submit a proposal for consideration with the other potential tenants.
