Small Business Saturday is coming up on Nov. 25. What started as an American Express campaign in 2010 to inspire consumers to shop locally has become an annual holiday that’s celebrated nationally.

We asked you to tell us which local small businesses you love shopping with + any deals you’re excited for, and (as usual) you didn’t disappoint. Plus, we included some of the local deals and shops we love.

Local Favorites

  • I Am Girl Stephanie | Bold, even outrageous earrings for those in your life who aren’t afraid to stand out.
  • Good Printed Things | Get something for your favorite bookworm from this Greenville publisher that specializes in small batch print projects. Check out the illustrated maps for the true-blue Greenvillian on your list.
  • Hannah Chloe Co. | Spiff up Spot with high-quality bows and bandanas.

News Notes
Holiday
  • Happy Thanksgiving. However you celebrate, we hope you enjoy a day of rest, reflection, and community. We here at GVLtoday are thankful for our city, and the fact that there’s always plenty to talk about.
Civic
Shop
  • Did you forget butter? Maybe you ran out of salt. Don’t worry. These grocery stores are open today for your last-minute Thanksgiving needs.
Trending
  • According to Google Trends, the most popular side dish in South Carolina is… mashed potatoes. What can we say, there’s no beating the classics. And in case you’re looking for a kindred spirit, the only other state to share our taste is Utah. (USAtoday)
Number
  • 70%. That’s how much of phase three of Judson Mill (known as “The Annex”) is occupied. In addition to Stumpy’s Hatchet House, Magnetic South Brewery, and High Spirits Hospitality, there are “undisclosed tenants” lined up + plans for a phase four. (Upstate Business Journal)

From the editor
Today kicks off my countdown to Thanksgiving 2024. Why, you may ask? Because I’m fulfilling a lifelong dream and attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with my sister (who works for Macy’s corporate) and watching The Carolina Band in their parade debut. It’s all 371 days away.
