You heard it ripe. The annual Tomato Sandwich Taste-Off is back at Trailblazer Park on Saturday, July 29. For $20 a ticket, you can try sample sizes of seven chef’s creations. It will be up to you — yes, you — to vote for the winner and declare who deserves the Tomato Trophy. This isn’t actually what it’s called, but we’d like to throw the suggestion out there.

Greenville’s foodie scene will be represented by seven local eateries in this fierce competition. Their provided ingredients will be tomatoes and imagination.

Rise Bakery — reigning champion — will be battling it out with:
Now in its eighth year, this annual fundraiser benefits the Travelers Rest Farmers Market. A 501(c)(3), its goal is to create a space for the exchange of local products, produce educational and cultural activities to strengthen the knowledge of local products, and foster a sense of community among everyone in Travelers Rest.

In addition to the competition, there will be 70+ vendors, live music, and kids activities. Buy tickets early so you don’t have to play ketchup.

We all know that Greenville is a special place with a never-ending supply of things to do, see, and experience. That got us thinking — we already spend our days helping you get the most out of our city. So what if we curated a collection of guides that will be updated and available anytime to help you navigate all our great city has to offer?

That’s just what we’ve done. Say hello to GVLtoday’s City Guide, your ultimate digital destination for the best ways to get out there and learn about the city you love.

We’ve broken the guides into three categories:

  • WORK — Top industries, startups, and great spots to work outside
  • PLAY — Parks, festivals, hikes, and date nights
That just scratches the surface. We’ve got guides to local Airbnb and Vrbo rentals, navigating the airport, volunteer opportunities around town, and even where you and your pooch can grab a drink together.

Ready to get to know your city even better? Check out the link below. And if there’s a guide you’d love to see, send us a suggestion because this list of guides will just keep growing.

Oh, and one more thing. For all you marketing folks out there, we have one exclusive sponsorship available. We will feature your brand next to everywhere the guides appear in the newsletter, website, and social media. It’s an opportunity that won’t last long, so drop us a line.

Three ways to celebrate Christmas in July

Ice cream from Clare's Creamery in the Overbrook neighborhood of Greenville, SC
We’ve got the scoop on Christmas in July. | Photo by GVLtoday
Ho Ho Ho. Christmas in July is on the horizon and Santa called to ask for our help rounding up spots with local celebrations.

Clare’s Creamery | 1635 E. North St.

On Tuesday, July 25, taste limited batches of your favorite holiday flavors, including peppermint crunch, eggnog, and gingerbread man. We also heard that Santa — yes, THE Santa — will be there from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Thomas Creek | 2054 Piedmont Hwy.

Some say Santa prefers beer to milk. Celebrate the big guy himself on Saturday, July 29. Grab a beer, a bite, and some mistletoe.

Wine & Design | 1175 Woods Crossing Rd.

Get into the holiday spirit early with a Christmas-themed painting class. Bring your own booze — we recommend eggnog — grab a few of your favorite elves, and rock the night away.
