During the month of July, GVLtoday will be celebrating our local beverage industry the best way we know how — through content.
From entrepreneurs to mixologists, unique coffee shops, fascinating local history + happy hour guides, we will shine a spotlight on the people and places that make our city’s beverage scene special.
Psst — this is where you come in:
We want to engage with local businesses interested in participating in our Drink Up initiative. Seriously, if you can drink it, we want to cover it.
Participation can look like:
Creating a specialty drink like Southernside Brewing Co. did last year with its Unity Park Beer-garita
Let’s just say, businesses set the bar high last year.
Get involved
If you are interested in participating, submit your event for free or email us. Note: we cannot guarantee inclusion for every submission, but if you decide you want to participate:
Let us know how you want to be involved — whether it’s an event, a drink, a special, or something else.
Send us any photos, videos, or assets we can use.

With school out for summer, chances are you’re looking for family-friendly activities. It’s always a bonus when that activity features fun for both the kids and the grown-ups.
Danielle here. I spent the day at the Roper Mountain Science Center’s Summer Adventure. From ways to learn while school’s out to energizing activities to burn energy, here’s how you can Try This.
What we tried:
I started my exploration at the seasonal exhibit “How People Make Things.” Inspired by Mr. Rogers, you’re immediately transported into a colorful, hands-on learning experience about how objects like crayons and sneakers are made + how people, ideas, and technology turn raw materials into finished products.
Look closely. You’ll see local manufacturers supporting the exhibit, giving kids a chance to connect what they’re learning with our community.
The Perch Kitchen & Tap will open in the $1 billion Greenville County Square development. Chicago-based 4 Star Restaurant Group will partner with Charleston-based Palmetto Brewing Co. for the concept, described as “a neighborhood eatery with delicious wood-fired meals.”
Civic
The Stone Avenue Recycling Center will close at 2 p.m. today, June 13, until 5 p.m. tomorrow, June 14, for maintenance. While it’s closed, the city asks you to bring recyclables to the city’s other site — the Rutherford Road Recycling Center at 514 Rutherford Rd.
Listen
I’ve been thinkin’ bout this all day long. Country music singer Josh Turner will perform a free concert at Simpsonville Simply Freedom Fest at CCNB Amphitheatre on Sunday, July 2 at 6 p.m. The night will conclude with Fourth of July fireworks.

The publication lauds Overbrook’s “walkability to parks, shops, and restaurants” and says 300+ homes were sold in the neighborhood from 2020 to 2022.
“With its proximity to downtown Greenville and the new Swamp Rabbit Trail extension, installation of sidewalks and retail and restaurant growth, Overbrook is one of the best places to settle in Greenville,” Overbrook Neighborhood President Della Scott tells Forbes.

I could spend a full day at the Roper Mountain Science Center. In addition to Summer Adventure, Laser Days of Summer kicks off Friday, July 7. I saw one of the Pink Floyd shows last summer and had a blast. This year, you’ll find me shaking it off at Laser Taylor Swift.
