How to celebrate baseball with Copa de la Diversión

Minor League Baseball fans know that baseball season means it’s time for Copa de la Diversión (or “Fun Cup”) — a season-long event series designed to “connect teams with their local US Hispanic communities.”

For special games and events, the Drive transforms into Ranas de Rio — so named after the Drive’s River Frog mascot.

Is it just us or does the Ranas de Rio uniform make you run faster?

Copa de la Diversión began in 2017 with four teams in Charlotte, Durham, Visalia, CA, and Las Vegas. The next year, it expanded to 33 teams and added a little competition. The 2018 winner? The attendance-record-breaking Mariachis de Nuevo México in Albuquerque.

This year, 90 MiLB teams will compete to be crowned campeón based on ballpark experience, community engagement, and philanthropic impact.

Help the Ranas de Rio win by attending events and cheering them on. The first Copa de la Diversión game of the season is this Saturday, May 13.

Start the celebration at Saturdays at the District at 5 p.m. (keep scrolling to the Community section for more details). Pro tip: Arrive early for the Mauricio Dubon bobblehead giveaway + free Salsa lessons with Upstate International.

The stadium opens at 6 p.m. and will feature:
Plus, don’t forget to represent Ranas de Rio in style.

  • Build their own instrument with the Department of Performing Arts
  • Become a sound designer
  • Discover the magic of theatrical lighting
  • Learn about color theory and artistic collaboration
  • Enter an immersive virtual reality simulation from the Center for Workforce Development
  • Program robots to create artwork
  • And more
Bonus: Clemson is also on the path to earning a coveted “All-Steinway School” designation. To celebrate, a Clemson orange and purple Steinway piano will be on display in the front window of Experience Clemson.*
