Greenville’s jazzing up downtown with an inaugural Jazz Fest

Celebrating community, culture, and jazz. That’s what the City of Greenville says is on tap for the inaugural Greenville Jazz Fest, coming Saturday, June 3 to Main Street (from Broad Street to Falls Park Drive).

The free event, from 4-10 p.m., will feature two stages with performances from:
Bites from local food trucks and drink tents will be available throughout the festival. Want to get involved? The city is looking for vendors and volunteers.

The City says it plans to extend the Greenville Jazz Fest to a two-day festival in 2024, with more performances and entertainment beyond downtown through partnerships with local music venues including:
Partnerships with The Greenville Jazz Collective and Greenville County Schools will also highlight music education opportunities for local students.

  • FOX HOUND, offering a “modern American breakfast and lunch” opens at Hampton Station (1320 Hampton Ave. Ext., Unit 4B) this weekend (Friday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.). Get ready for a grand opening menu featuring breakfast staples with an international influence — we can’t wait to taste the Thai Omelet.

  • Tracking trash? There’s an app for that. The City of Greenville launched a new app to help residents access solid waste info 24/7, view the pickup schedule, set up collection alerts, and find out how to dispose of non-recyclable items. Download it to your device.
  • Greenville County Rec will talk about the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, the Pavilion, and the county’s growth and future during tonight’s Citizen Communication Forum at County Square (Room D) at 5 p.m. Want to have your voice heard? Sign up for a chance to speak.

  • Other Lands — a neighborhood cafe, brewery, bar, and restaurant — will take over 731 Rutherford Rd. (the former Parkersway Foods Deli).   • Tropical Grille is coming soon to 5052 Old Buncome Rd. near Travelers Rest. The Greenville-based Cuban and Latin-style restaurant will take over the former Parsley and Mint location, opening date to be announced. (WSPA)

  • Root, root, root, for the home team as the Greenville Drive hits the field for its 17th season. Kick things off at Fluor Field tonight with live music, family activities, and the opening of the Milliken Digital First Pitch Experience — first pitch is at 7:05 p.m. but the pregame party starts at 5 p.m. Pro tip: Plan the rest of your opening week calendar.

NEXT Launchpad provides $95,000 in services to local startups

Greenville’s good at a lot of things, and celebrating entrepreneurs is one of them. NEXT — a nonprofit supporting local startups — held its second annual Launchpad event on Thursday, April 6.

This year, 50+ applicants competed for $95,000 worth of prizes across seven categories (think: legal services and team development) to help local entrepreneurs grow their ventures.

Get to know the winners

Modal | This “globally-recognized and technically-advanced hostel concept” received the Business Consulting package from Elliott Davis.

Avallano | Aimed at improving patient recruitment and retention, this SaaS (read: software as a service) company received Find Great People’s HR and Team Development package.

Incora Health | SLANT provided a Branding and Design package to this data-driven company focused on tracking fertility health and wellness management through wearable devices, like earrings.
