La Mexicana Torta at Las Meras Tortas

Order the La Mexicana sub at Las Meras Tortas and experience one of my favorite sandwiches.

The #2 is a magical combination of grilled steak, ham, pineapple and Oaxaca cheese on a telera bun. I order it fully dressed, which means it’s topped with tomato, lettuce, avo, mayo, jalapeno and a smear of refried beans, which somehow brings it all together. It’s warm and meldy in the most satisfying way with moments of sweetness and spice.

The condiment bar alone is worth a trip to either of the Las Meras Tortas locations (there’s one on Wade Hampton Blvd and one on White Horse Road), so don’t skip the pickled carrots and any of the blended sauces.

There are tacos, burritos and other noteworthy items, but I never can get past the Mexican subs (they’re that good).
