And so begins a new era for what many of us think of as the “Breakwater Building” in the ballpark district, OTTO Izakaya opens to the public this Thursday (cue the happy hour specials at 4 p.m., bring on the sushi BOGO at 10 p.m.).

Could I be any happier to have an izakaya downtown, let alone one under the helm of Peter Lieu? And, like his Woodruff Road location a rotating talent of sushi chefs (many from Atlanta’s top spots) will delight us with press box rolls, fresh sashimi salads, housemade marinades and sauces, dumplings, noodles, Greenville’s deepest sake menu (and yes of course fried Oreo thins).

Ryan Robertson facilitated the deal to get OTTO Izakaya into the stand-alone building at 802 South Main St and described the experience to me. “When I walked in the building for the first time, I literally day-dreamed about eating at OTTO, going to the Drive game and then heading back to OTTO.” Great plan, count me in!

Funny enough, today is a year since we started BucketDish every Tuesday and guess what plate was our very first one? The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice at OTTO Izakaya. It’s still one of my very favorite bites in GVL and (as of Thursday) it’ll be a whole lot closer. I’ll see you there.
