While we do love sharing a breaking development story or a list of where to get the best cheese plates, you guys ask us some great questions on a regular basis that lead us to some of our best newsletters.

Here are a few questions we’ve received lately (with answers, of course)

Asked: “Do you have any information about what might be built across from Publix on Poinsett Highway? There is a large empty space down from a newer apartment complex and I’ve heard rumors of a Lidl or a Lowes Foods.”

Answered: “The property is supposed to be a shopping center called Poinsett Commons… I read somewhere that Lidl is going to be the grocery store that anchors it. That seems to be definite. It’s being developed by Centennial American Properties and has been in the works for a couple of years now. I occasionally see people over there and even some earth-moving equipment once, but so far nothing has happened. Could be they don’t have enough stores lined up yet to break ground. Could be this project has been put on the back burner because of other projects this company is working on, like the Camperdown project downtown....” - Our reader, Jeanne R.

Asked: “I am curious if you can find out what is going to be built on the land across from Breakout on North Main St in downtown Greenville?” – Dana S.

Answered: The property at 607-611 N. Main St. currently belongs to the Babcock Investment Company. The building on the site has been torn down and (pending City approval) is planned for luxury townhomes.

Asked: “Any word on what the new restaurant is in Simpsonville? They are building something right next to the new Chili’s off Fairview.”

Answered: According to my stepmom (who asked the employees at Publix), a Panera Drive-thru is planned for that space and McAlister’s may take over old Panera location nearby.

Asked: “I had read something years back that Albert Einstein traveling by bus had spent some time at Dreamland in his youth.” – Dan F.

Answered: Einstein’s son, Hans Albert Einstein, and his wife lived on Randall Street in the North Main area of Greenville for 5 years in the late 1930’s. We haven’t found any info about a visit to Dreamland, but it’s still pretty awesome that Albert Einstein visited his son in this area.

Asked: “What’s happening to the old Belk-Simpson building at McAlister Square?” – Thomas R.

Answered: Greenville Tech still owns the property but plans to demolish the building.

Asked: “Which restaurants/places have golf cart parking?”

Answered: Hall of Fame, Tacozzini, Universal Joint, and The Community Tap are a few places we’ve heard about.

Asked: “I am trying to find out why the lake across from the Lake View Middle School is dry. Do you know why this is? What is the history around this lake?” – Julie

Answered: The lake was at one time a water source for Union Bleachery, and the water was used as part of their bleaching process. The plant is no longer in existence and the lake was drained a number of years ago.

Asked: “Are there any plans to repave Pelham Road from Haywood to I-85 in the near future?” – Arnold B.

Answered: We haven’t found the answer to this one yet but if you have any info, please send it over.

Asked: “Do you know of any place to have a QUIET lunch or dinner - if it’s not high ceilings and music it is outside traffic!” – Jane

Answered: Sushi Masa, Grimaldi’s, and Trattoria are a few suggestions we’ve heard.

Thanks for keeping us on our toes with all your questions. We love learning more about our city with you.

Enjoy the weekend, GVL.
