The Cancer Survivors Park (CSP) is not the first beautification project for cancer patients and survivors in our area but it will certainly be the biggest. Diane Gluck, Cancer Survivors Park Alliance (formerly Patients First) founder and board president, was inspired by her daughter’s high school project to enhance the area outside of a local cancer treatment center and wanted to turn it into something more. To be specific, a $7.5 million, 6.8 acre project that will connect Falls and Cleveland Parks and will provide transformational trail side access to health care resources and programs in their Survivorship Education Center..

Remember the“cheese grater” bridge along the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail behind the Chamber of Commerce building? (I do – I would have to carry my beagle across it every time. 😑) It has already been replaced with a 12-foot wide Spirit bridge and all that previously unused space is turning into the new Cancer Survivors Park.

All of that land is being transformed to include:

  • A children’s garden and native plant area 🌱
  • A healing garden with a labyrinth
  • Small amphitheater and seating areas
  • Sculptures and small waterfalls
  • 4 ADA-accessible entrances to the park from Falls Park, Cleveland Park, Chamber of Commerce, and Church Street/Next Building
  • Survivorship Education Center
  • Celebration Pavilion Platform
  • GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail re-alignment & resurfacing (which recently finished and the Cleveland Park side is officially complete).
