Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Upstate has plans to create a new pediatric cancer + blood disorders unit to provide more comfort to patients and their loved ones.
First reported on by The Greenville Journal , The “Inspire Courage” capital campaign, launched yesterday, Sept. 14, hopes to raise $6 million for the project. $3.8 million has already been raised.
Additionally, Hogs for the Cause , a nonprofit barbecue competition and festival based in New Orleans, has gifted $1 million, and in honor of the donation, the new unit will be named the Hogs for the Cause Hematology-Oncology Unit. This little piggy is saving lives.
The new unit will provide:
- Nine inpatient rooms
- A day-stay room with two infusion chairs
- A special two-room suite for families in end-of-life situations
- In-room desks for parents to work remotely
- A space for parents
- An expanded playroom
Construction of the new unit is scheduled begin in early 2024 and will take ~two years to complete.
