Number
74,038. That’s the record number of fans who attended this year’s SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament, including 13,557 at Sunday’s championship game, a single-game record. In case you missed it, I was there all week with highlights like the Rollin’ Tigers halftime scrimmage and Downtown Dribble.
Development
Last night, the City of Greenville approved almost $26 million to purchase six acres of land on Falls Street to make way for the Falls Park Conference District. The plans feature a hotel and conference center in the heart of downtown, which officials say will generate $22 million in annual new visitor spending.
Sports
The Paladins are dancing for the first time since 2023. With a 76-61 victory over East Tennessee during the SoCon Tournament last night, Furman punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament. We’ll find out where they’re headed on Selection Sunday this weekend.
Open
A new coffee spot is now brewing in Simpsonville. Crown & Bloom Coffee Co. has officially opened its downtown location near Gracely Park.
Traffic
Construction to repair the Willard Street Bridge, which was damaged by Helene, began yesterday. The bridge will be closed to all traffic for about four months. Drivers will detour via West Washington, Hudson, and Mayberry Streets, while Swamp Rabbit Trail users will cross at the Spinks Family Bridge. (WYFF 4)
