Development
The City of Spartanburg is eyeing stage upgrades designed to turn Barnet Park into a more competitive concert venue. Plans include a new curved canopy, better sound and lighting infrastructure, and behind-the-scenes improvements for touring acts — plus a new home for the city’s historic 1881 bell.
Civic
The City of Greenville will spend $450,000 to buy 5.6 acres of undeveloped woods near the Downtown Airport, preserving the land from future development. The move supports the city’s open space goals as leaders work to balance conservation with a growing airport district built around recreation and business. (The Post and Courier Greenville)
Announced
The new Southernside Multiservice Center on Hampton Avenue will be named after community leader Mary Frances Duckett. Opening in April, it will serve as a hub for neighborhood meetings and programming, honoring Duckett’s legacy in shaping Southernside and bringing Unity Park to life.
Ranked
No. 10. That’s where Greenville ranked on the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s list of the worst US cities for allergies this year. The list factored in pollen scores, over-the-counter allergy medicine use, and availability of board-certified allergists and immunologists.
Open
Greenville Comedy Zone is relocating to Revel at 304 E. Stone Ave. (downstairs at Stone Pin Co.) starting today. The new setup allows for bigger shows and pairs comedy with dinner, drinks, and bowling.
Concert
Bryan Adams is bringing his “Roll With The Punches Tour” to Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Aug. 4 with Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m.
Edu
Legacy Early College received a $2 million donation toward a new West Greenville campus, bringing it closer to its $25 million fundraising goal with ~$10 million raised. The expansion could nearly double enrollment to 3,000 students, with a new 1,300-student campus on Marion Road expected to open in winter 2027. (Greenville Journal)
