A downtown transformation

Court Street could look completely different in the near future after design plans were approved to transform a private parking lot into an eight-story building. Designs for the new tower feature restaurant and retail on the street level, with plans to lease the seven other floors to office tenants.

The 0.4-acre parcel is right next to 300 E. McBee Ave. (home to Prisma Health, Lima One Capital, STIR, and others), which underwent a major renovation last year.

That’s not the only potential change: Last month, I told you the City of Greenville is thinking about turning part of East Court Street into a pedestrian-only area with an all-weather market and event structure between Main Street and Falls Street.

What do you think of the proposals to transform this area just off Main Street? Reply to this email and let me know.

SouthState Bank grants Make-A-Wish in Greenville

Presented by SouthState Bank
A group of people stand posed for a photo, with a young girl at the center holding a poster that says "WISH GRANTED: Alana, you're going to Disney World!" with SouthState Bank branding on the bottom.

Alana, a Greenville 12-year-old, had a dream to meet her favorite Disney princess, Tiana. Thanks to SouthState Bank’s fundraising efforts with Make-A-Wish during World Wish Month, Alana’s wish has been granted.

SouthState team members and customers contributed to a successful donation campaign, surprising Alana and her family with a trip to Walt Disney World.

Alana is just one of many Greenvillians SouthState has impacted. Check out more ways our local branches give back, from Wish kids to affordable housing.

News Notes

Open

Automatic Taco’s new Overbrook location is now open in the former Mr. Crisp space. Enjoy the tacos, cocktails, and other bites (like my favorite — the Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Auto Sauce) that you know and love from The Commons.

Closed

After two years in business, MooHogz Craft BBQ has closed its location at The Commons. The family- and veteran-owned spot began as a Hampton Station food trailer in 2022 before opening in summer 2024. Owners say the decision came down to what was sustainable for their family. (Upstate Business Journal)

Sports

Former Clemson golfer Jacob Bridgeman captured his first PGA Tour win at The Genesis tournament, finishing 18-under-par. The Chapman High standout secured the victory with a steady final round in Los Angeles. Congratulations, Jacob! (WSPA)

Real Estate

Do you want to live steps from the West End? This fully updated home with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms is calling your name for under $600,000.

Number

2,100. That’s how many acres across the Upstate and western North Carolina were permanently protected by Upstate Forever in late 2025. The conservation easements span seven counties and include farms, forests, and waterways, bringing the group’s 2025 total to more than 2,700 acres protected. (Greenville Journal)

Announced

Centre Stage’s 2026–2027 season opens in September with Neil Simon’s “Rumors” and also includes “Million Dollar Quartet Christmas,” “Ain’t Too Proud,” “Mean Girls,” and “The 39 Steps.” The lineup also features its annual New Play Festival in October and Fringe Festival productions in January. (Greenville Journal)

Legacy

Part of Haynie Street — from US Highway 29 to SC Highway 20 — will be dedicated to Rev. Jesse Jackson, who died on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Read more about his legacy. (FOX Carolina)

Post of the Day

The fact that I’m just a few seasons away from a Shake Shack Shack Stack — say that three times fast — is bun-believable. The next time you’re driving on Woodruff Road, you’ll see the fencing up with the branding (near City Barbeque).

According to the local construction team that posted this video, they’re officially laying the groundwork (literally) for burgers, fries, and ice cream by this summer.
