It’s been a few years since local and regional artists hit the stage at Paris Mountain State Park for a solar-powered music series. Before Hurricane Helene, Music in the Woods was a Greenville fall tradition.

This was one of many sites that had to be cleaned up after Helene.

Friends of Paris Mountain (a local 501C3 supporting the park) launched a Raise the Stage fundraiser for a new focal point of the amphitheater, which was first built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The hope is to open in fall 2026, just in time for Music in the Woods. Support the build by sponsoring a personalized cedar plank for $50.

Picture your ideal retirement: is it travel, time with family, perfecting your pickleball game, learning a new hobby, or all of the above?

Just like your retirement goals, your path to achieving them is unique. Luckily, Capital City Financial Partners (CCFP) offers two complimentary meetings to get on the right track.

Meeting 1: Assess your finances and identify goals

In your first meeting, CCFP will gather the details of your current financial plan and examine key areas of retirement planning (think: income, taxes, investments, healthcare, and legacy planning).

The Capital Confidence Plan will help to evaluate your finances, identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency, and align your investments with your goals and risk tolerance.

Meeting 2: Your retirement report card

In your second meeting, you’ll receive a Capital Confidence Report Card, grading all areas of your retirement plan and showing areas to improve. CCFP will offer personalized solutions designed to help you meet your goals, whether you decide to partner with CCFP or not.

News Notes

Mansion Monday

“The Bridge House” has hit the market, sitting on almost four acres right on the Green Valley golf course. This estate boasts a first-floor primary with his-and-hers separate bathrooms and closets, four verandas, four fireplaces, three ovens, and a dreamy kitchen. Plus... a dog room?

Read

Reading is on the rise, with online searches for “good books” recently hitting an all time high. If you’re trying to turn more pages in 2026, read some classic literature, or find out what this fictional hockey romance thing is all about, we’ve shared a few local reading challenges to help you meet your goals.

Eat

Pizzerias aren’t ruling the restaurant world like they used to. After hitting a record high in 2019, the number of pizza restaurants in the US has steadily declined, with coffee shops and Mexican restaurants now outnumbering them. Slice lovers, consider this your cue to support local pizza purveyors. (Wall Street Journal)

Drink

THC drinks are popping up on local bar menus as a buzzy alcohol alternative. The seltzers and spirits are gaining traction among younger drinkers seeking a social buzz without booze. (TOWN)

History

Lt. Morton “Mason” Sher was a Greenville High graduate shot down in China in 1943. After decades missing in action, it was DNA, a crash-site marker, and a global investigation that brought the Flying Tiger back to Greenville 82 years later to be laid to rest. (The Post and Courier Greenville)

Number

25. That’s how many years Hughes Agency has helped raise $66+ million for local nonprofits and projects, including $17 million for Unity Park, $15 million for The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, and $34 million through TD SYNNEX Share the Magic. (Upstate Business Journal)

Jobs

Kick off 2026 by growing your team the smart way. Whether you’re a small business ready to expand or a large company filling a critical role, our Job Board connects you with engaged, qualified local talent ready to work. Post your open roles for free and start the new year with strong applications rolling in.

Plan Ahead

Can you smell that?

Thank goodness this newsletter isn’t scratch-and-sniff. | Photo by Clemson University
In no time, spring will be in the air, and with it, the stench of the notorious Bradford Pear Trees. It’s been illegal to sell or trade the trees since 2024, but it’s not illegal to have them on your property if they were previously planted. However, wildlife experts still encourage their removal.

The “Bradford Pear Bounty” is here to help. Clemson University and the SC Forestry Commission teamed up to give you up to five free trees in exchange for the removal of your Bradford Pears.

Here’s how it works:
  • Register online
  • Have your trees removed
  • Take a photo of yourself with the cut down tree(s). “A selfie, if you will,” Clemson requests.
  • Bring your photo(s) to Conestee Park on Saturday, March 28, from 8 to 11 a.m. to exchange for a replacement tree.
Pro tip: The experts at Clemson say Bradford Pear wood is great for firewood.

The Buy

Our favorite car accessory: a portable air pump and power bank. Never worry about low tire pressure again with this lightweight device that inflates tires while providing a real-time pressure display. Plus, it features a flashlight + flashing SOS mode for added peace of mind during a breakdown or emergency.

The Wrap

Adult field day is coming to PKL Park on Saturday, Jan. 31. Teams of six will battle it out in dodgeball, flip cup, cornhole, and singles and doubles pickleball, with live scoring and prizes. It sounds like the perfect way to celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games — which I have fun coverage planned for next month.
