The city’s traffic plan hits the road (again)

This week, Greenville City Council got an update on Phase II of a master plan focused on transportation needs downtown, identifying projects that will:
  • Enhance traffic flow
  • Reduce congestion
  • Improve safety
  • Promote alternative modes of transportation
Phase I’s plan, completed in 2019, focused on 28 short-term, relatively low-cost projects — many of which have been completed or are currently underway, like improvements to the Cultural Corridor. It also identified seven corridors that they’d like to take a closer look at as part of Phase II.

What’s on the Phase II list?

Short-term projects:
  • Restrict left turns on Main Street from McBee Avenue to Coffee Street
  • Create a single-lane roundabout at the McDaniel Avenue, Woodland Way, and University Ridge intersection
  • Update the eastbound access to Academy Street from Buncombe Street
Long-term projects:
  • Close the access ramp from East Park Avenue onto Church Street
  • Add a three-legged partial median U-turn on Academy Street at Church Street

Higher education isn’t one-size-fits-all. Lucky for you, Greenville Technical College offers opportunities for students at various stages of life. Take a look at the options:

  • Certificate programs are a great option for students looking to enter the workforce quickly, as they typically take a few months to a year to complete. These programs are best for learning or upgrading a specific skill set and focus on hands-on training.
  • Associate degrees take about two years to complete, offering broader education in both technical training and general education courses.
  • Bachelor’s degrees take about four years and focus on in-depth study with courses specific to a specialty within a broader academic curriculum. Greenville Tech offers the first Bachelor of Applied Science program at a two-year institution in South Carolina.

Learn more about your college options online or at an upcoming open house or campus tour.
