News Notes

Number

~60 minutes. That’s how much sunlight will be lost in Greenville over the course of September as days get progressively shorter. If you’re dreading the darkness, you still have time to make the most of bright evenings at a local park.

Eat

What’s the best chicken sandwich in South Carolina? According to Tasting Table, it’s Charleston-based Boxcar Betty’s Boxcar chicken sandwich, made with pimento cheese, peach slaw, and spicy mayo. Here in Greenville, we’ll stick with the classic chicken sando from Golden, Brown, & Delicious.

Plan Ahead

Swifties, get ready to dance for your favorite showgirl. Radio Room will host “The Party of a Showgirl” on Thursday, Oct. 23, celebrating Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” The dance party will play the entire album along with Swift’s hits and deep cuts.

Travel

Frontier Airlines is bringing back its all-you-can-fly pass once again this year, allowing customers unlimited domestic and international flights for a steep discount. Not feeling a drive north to CLT? We get it — good thing Greenville has plenty of staycation-worthy spots.
There she is. Miss New York, Cassie Donegan, was crowned Miss America 2026 on Sunday, Sept. 7. Donegan earned more than $50,000 in scholarships, and is the eighth Miss New York to win Miss America. In case you were wondering, Miss South Carolina last won in 1994. (People)

Finance

Running a small business takes vision — and the right support. Huntington National Bank, a leading SBA lender in the region and the country, offers flexible loans designed for growth, from start-ups to expansions. Think: longer terms, lower down payments, and no balloon surprises. Start the conversation with a local lender.*

Post of the Day

Slice, slice, baby — a hot new pizzeria is entering the GVL food scene next year.

As reported by the Upstate Business Journal, King of Fire Pizza announced plans to open six new restaurants in the Upstate, with the first set to open in Greenville in the spring of 2026.

Food Network alum Siler Chapman began the pizza-forward franchise as a food truck in 2018, then went on to open a brick-and-mortar location in Charlotte in 2024.

Want to know what other restaurants are new and coming soon to Greenville? We’ve got the scooper, slice.

The Wrap

After last weekend’s book fair at New Realm Brewing, Co., I wanted to pass along a fun pro tip. You can use your Greenville County Library card to download e-books directly to your digital devices, plus stream audiobooks, movies, and music. Talk about a game changer.

If you prefer the feeling of a physical book in your hand and missed the book fair, worry not — you can always browse the stacks at M. Judson. Maybe you’ll even find something new for this weekend’s Silent Reading Party.
