Carlos Phillips delivered remarks at our opening reception. | Photo by GVLtoday
“I want it to feel like we’re shoving 10 pounds of potatoes into a five-pound bag.”

That’s how Greenville Chamber CEO Carlos Phillips described just how much we’re going to accomplish over the next three days of our Intercommunity Leadership Visit.

In case you missed it, this week, I’m reporting live — well, as live as a daily newsletter can be — from Boise, ID. I’ve tagged along with 80 Greenville leaders across sectors to spark ideas, build connections, and inspire the future of our city.

Greenville Chamber Board Chair Traci Newkirk asked us to:
  1. Slow down
  2. Notice
  3. Be curious
As I’m typing this, I’m preparing for a sunrise hike to kick off our first full day of programming. I’m excited to take you along with me.

Coming Soon

Uki Bowlz is bringing its smoothie bowls, toasts, and coffee creations to Five Forks. The North Main shop announced its expansion. “We couldn’t be more grateful for all the love and support that made this possible,” the owners said.

Announced

After nearly six years, Methodical Coffee is pressing pause on its hot food program at The Commons, with the last day being earlier this week. A new lineup of shows just dropped at Bon Secours Wellness Arena: WWE SmackDown (Nov. 7), Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Dec. 12), Bailey Zimmerman (Feb. 26), Harlem Globetrotters (March 27), and Monster Jam (April 25–April 26). Mark your calendars and search the site for ticket details.

Festival

We’re not gherkin — the Piedmont Pickle Fest is back Oct. 19 at Carolina Bauernhaus. Expect pickle tastings, live music, pickleball, a best-dressed contest, and even a pickle-packing challenge. It will be a dill-icious day of briny fun.

Kids

Conestee Preserve will host a family open house on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Nature Playscape. Kids can enjoy a reading of The Leaf Thief, make leaf-print art, and learn why leaves change color. It’s free to attend — just show up with an adult.

Feel Good

There was double the joy at Prisma Health Patewood when sisters Jordyn Boley and Jessica Kelly delivered baby girls just 17 minutes apart last Friday. The pair, only 13 months apart, joked that it turned into a “race to deliver first.” (WYFF 4)

Have you eaten at Soby’s?

On Tuesday, we shared updates from the Soby’s kitchen, including a renowned chef taking over the program and some of the farm-fresh bites we tried. Don’t worry — fan favorites like the shrimp and grits aren’t going anywhere.

The Wrap

The story of what happened in Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001 — and the week that followed — is a powerful reminder of community and humanity in the aftermath of tragedy. Greenvillians Caroline and Phillip Dennis were on one of the flights diverted to the small island, where they stayed in a school and with a local family for a week. They shared their story with the Greenville Journal in a must-read article.

They’ll also talk about their experience on this day 24 years ago at Centre Stage’s opening of “Come From Away,” the musical based on the events of that week. If you can’t make it, they’ll speak again at closing night on Sept. 28.
