News Notes

GVL_The_Yard_Laurens_Road_JULY2025

Take a closer look at the concepts for “The Yard.” | Rendering by Project Plus

Development

The former McKinney Hardware and Lumber site on Laurens Road will transform into a neighborhood hub with food, fitness, retail + green space. No tenants have been nailed down yet, and “the goal is to preserve and adapt as many of the existing structures as possible.” (The Post and Courier Greenville)

List

The Rabbit Hole just landed on USA TODAY’s list of “The 29 best bars in America in 2025.” Known for its storybook-inspired design (yes, even mossy walls + upside-down tables), the whimsical Village bar wowed judges with decor and an equally imaginative food + drink menu. (Greenville News)

Closing

Driftwood will pour its last drink Friday, Aug. 9. The neighborhood bar, which opened in 2024 in the former Growler Haus location in The Village, announced it’s “moving on to new things.” No word yet on what’s next for the space. (Upstate Business Journal)

Biz

Stationery Store Day is this Saturday, Aug. 2. Local favorites Dear Greenville + Page and Post are joining in the national celebrations. You can celebrate 365 days a year by shopping local artists and paper stores.

Announced

Get ready to shellebrate. Jones Oyster Co.’s ShuckWeek runs Monday, Aug. 4–Saturday, Aug. 9. Expect food + drink specials all week, plus $2 raw oysters on Tuesday, Aug. 5 (aka National Oyster Day). Bonus: Tickets will drop for the fall oyster roast series.

Award

Fountain Inn earned the Excellence on Main Street Award for restoring the historic Ellison Flour Mill — now The Mill at Fountain Inn. Once shuttered, the 1940s mill now houses a brewery, food hall, and event space.
