In honor of our inaugural Peach Week, we’re taking a look at a battle that pits one state against another: Georgia, “The Peach State” vs. South Carolina, “The Tastier Peach State,” which is the nickname Clemson’s official “peach expert” gave SC over a decade ago.
Let’s take a look, battle by battle, at why we think SC peaches come out on top in this so-called “Peach War.”

A Night of Music for Texas Hill Country | 6-10 p.m. | Carolina Bauernhaus Greenville | $13 | Come together for an evening of music to raise money for flood relief in Texas.
Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport cut the ribbon on its expanded Cerulean General Aviation Terminal yesterday, July 14. The revamped space boasts upgraded dining and relaxation areas for pilots and passengers — plus doubled cargo capacity, which connects shipments from GSP to 107 million people in a single day. The Traveler Diner is now open, replacing Traveler’s Restaurant, which closed on Highway 25 a few months ago. Regulars of the meat-and-three are returning for country-fried steak, fried okra, and mac and cheese. (The Post and Courier Greenville)
Development
Furman University demolished Blackwell Hall yesterday, July 14. Saying goodbye to the 1967 residence hall — named for Furman’s 8th president — is the final step in a major housing project that includes new dorms and renovations across campus. (FOX Carolina)
Festival
The Whale Invitational will pour into The Foundry on Saturday, Nov. 8 with 50+ breweries, food from Magnetic South and Mill City Kitchen, retail vendors, and educational panels. Enjoy unlimited tastings, kid drop-off at Judson Play Cafe, and a portion of sales supporting Friends of the Reedy River.
