Prepare for the 2025 hurricane season

The 2025 hurricane season is here, and we want to help you stay ready.

“As we witnessed last year with significant inland flooding from hurricanes Helene and Debby, the impacts of hurricanes can reach far beyond coastal communities,” said Acting National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrator Laura Grimm.

We’ve put together this guide to help you prepare now, so you have safeguards in place if a storm does hit our area again.

Prepare

  • Stay up to date on forecasts + advisories.
  • Prepare your home — including bringing loose items inside, trimming trees, or reinforcing windows ahead of a storm.
  • Gather supplies like non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, cash, blankets, important documents, and first aid supplies.
  • For your pets, pack a pet kit with food, water, leashes, medications, and health records.
Explore the SC Emergency Management Division’s 2025 Hurricane Guide for even more ways to prepare for the storm season.

Ever wonder who our wildest neighbors are? Hint: They don’t live in houses.

This summer, come say “hi” to them at the South Carolina Aquarium. Located right on the scenic Charleston Harbor, the Aquarium invites you to explore South Carolina’s habitats — from mountain forests all the way to the coast.

🐬 Hands-on fun

Feed friendly cownose rays, feel the texture of a sea star, and maybe even spot wild dolphins splashing in the harbor. Feeling adventurous? Take a virtual reality dive underwater or get an up-close look at sea turtle rehabilitation happening live.

☀️ Summer events

Enjoy fun events like kids’ dance classes, a sustainable seafood dinner with wine pairings, yoga beneath the Great Ocean Tank’s glow, and more.

🐢 Conservation in action

Bonus: Every ticket helps fund the Aquarium’s work in animal care, education, and conservation — supporting the animals + habitats that make our state special.

Sticky Fingers closed its Main Street restaurant, and it’s no longer listed on the barbecue chain’s website.

In October 2023, we told you that women’s clothing brand Altar’d State (which has a location at Haywood Mall) purchased the building located at 1 S. Main St., according to land records. Once we know the plans for the storefront, we’ll be sure to update you.

Until then, we want to know what you’d put in the space if you were in charge. You know the drill: It’s time to Be the Broker.

The Wrap

I was scrolling way back on GVLtoday’s pages, and I came across this post on our Instagram from January 2017 where we asked you what Greenville is missing.

It’s cool to see some of those things in motion:
I still like the ideas like an independent movie theatre downtown, a 24-hour coffee shop, a barcade, and a Raising Cane’s (though Guthrie’s, which just opened in Greer, is similar and delicious).

What is Greenville still missing? Let me know.
