Not much has changed in over a decade. | Photo by Google Maps
After sitting mostly vacant for over a decade, could something finally be coming soon to the ”Baby BI-LO?”
The old BI-LO at 505 N. Main St. — which was the smallest in the grocery store’s chain at the time — closed in 2013 after 20+ years in business. In 2014, there was talk of a locally-owned neighborhood grocery store taking over the space, but it never happened.
City Councilmember John DeWorken sent an email to constituents last week with a survey asking if they’d like to see apartments, townhomes, retail, restaurants, or offices on the site.
We want to take his question a step further and ask you to take off your reader hat + put on your real estate developer hat to Be the Broker. What businesses do you want to see in this — potentially — forthcoming development? Answer below.

Co-founders Ryan Johnston and Ryan Heafy shared behind-the-scenes stories on how they built one of the fastest-growing local newsletter networks in the U.S. They explained how they scaled operations, built a powerhouse team, and are leveraging AI to fuel their next stage of growth.
Designed to bring together growth-minded individuals, Collaborators & Cocktails is a fun way for professionals at any stage of their career to connect, learn, and grow. Think: Masterclasses on growing your brand and business.

A dinner fit for a Masters champion
Did someone choose steak frites? | Photo by Jeremy Krauze
It’s Masters week, and to get in the spirit, we’re donning our green jacket + stepping into the shoes of a champion.
Since 1952, the Masters champion has hosted a dinner the year after they win featuring their favorite foods. This year’s menu by Scottie Scheffler + features items like “Papa Scheff’s Meatball + Ravioli Bites” and “Texas-Style Chili.” Learn the lore behind each choice.
Here are the local bites we’d choose for our menu:
Appetizers | Cheese Trio (featuring Whipped Ricotta from Jianna, Fried Goat Cheese Balls from The Lazy Goat, and Fried Green Tomatoes with Pimento Cheese from Woodside Bistro), NOLA Grilled Gulf Oysters from The Jones Oyster Co + assorted dumplings from Sum Bar
First Course | Crispy Brussels Sprout Salad from The 05
Main Course | Choice of Steak Frites from Scoundrel or Shrimp and Grits from Soby’s

I’m happiest at Fluor Field with a hot dog in one hand and a cold beer in the other. ICYMI, here’s a recap of the star-studded Opening Day (including a National Anthem performance by Greenvillian Edwin McCain). I’m also excited to hit the road when The Drive plays Spartanburg’s new team — The Hub City Spartanburgers — for the first time on Tuesday, April 22. See you there?
