Great minds dink alike

Relish every moment. We sat down with the managing members + director of operations for Baseline GVL — a new indoor pickleball facility coming to the Haywood Road area.

Why Greenville?

“A facility like this which creates a place where people can go and make new relationships is very much in people’s DNA. It’s a very sports-minded area, and we think it’s going to be a great place,” managing member Dave Benore told us.

What makes this facility special?

Chandler Benore, a former pickleball pro and director of operations, told us, “A ton of research went into the facility. We brought in different pickleball players and spent a lot of time on the quality of the courts.”

“We didn’t want to be just a food and beverage facility that you could play pickleball at, but we did add features to the facility that will allow people to gather — pre-play and post-play — with a smoothie and juice bar, a pro shop, and an outdoor patio.”

What’s cookin, good lookin? Furman University is celebrating it’s bicentennial (aka 200 years) next year, and to celebrate, Furman’s First Gentleman Charles Davis wants your recipes for a cookbook.

“In the Kitchen with Furman: Celebrating 200 Years” will be made up of recipes + stories from “faculty, staff, students, and friends of the university.” This will be the second cookbook Davis has helped create since 2014.

“Whether it’s gram’s special cinnamon rolls, dad’s barbecued ribs, or your own tasty broccoli salad, we want you to share it with your Furman family,” Davis says. He also asks you to consider sharing a brief story of how the dish became a family favorite.

Submit your recipes for a chance to be included. Submissions don’t guarantee entry. Don’t tell grandma.

I’m not much of a sports person (besides reffing sand volleyball) but I do love to see my alma mater USC Upstate represented in historic events like the first baseball game at Fifth Third Park. Forever Spartan strong.
