Who does what in Greenville’s government? | Photo by James Simpson
To be an effective citizen, you have to be a knowledgeable one.

We’re teaching Greenville Government 101, where we break down different aspects of our local government.

What form of Government does Greenville have?

The City of Greenville operates under a Council-Manager form of government.

The Mayor and City Council members are elected, and the City Manager is hired by City Council. Think of the City Manager as the CEO of the City’s Administration, because the mayor and council do not have administrative powers.

Ranked

Conde Nast Traveler put together a list of the “54 Most Beautiful College Campuses in America,” and our very own Furman University made the list. Citing the beloved bell tower, the Asia Gardens, and our “warmer climate,” we can’t say we disagree.

Sports

Talk about goals. Prisma Health is the primary jersey sponsor for the Greenville Triumph. Club president Chris Lewis said, “Prisma offers best-in-the-Upstate services and care, and we know they will position our players to succeed. We’re also looking forward to making an impact in the community alongside Prisma through their children’s hospital and orthopedic clinics.”

Watch

Catch a screening of “No Address” — a film based on true events about “hope, humanity, and resilience as a group of individuals experiencing homelessness” — at Camelot Cinemas on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. The $20 ticket sales will go to The Salvation Army of Greenville, who’s hosting the screening. Outdoors

Survey says… The City of Greenville conducted a trailside survey on the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, asking users what they wanted to see more of. Top responses included more food and beverage tenants, pocket parks, and additional history + art along the trail. Peek the full findings.

Opening

After temporarily closing its doors, Harvest Kitchen in Greer is re-opening this Friday, Feb. 28. Stay in the know + get some sneak peeks of what to expect by following the kitchen on Instagram.

All this for us? The sweet pups at the Greenville Humane Society got some new play equipment from Oasis Animal Hospital. Our four-legged buddies can now get in a workout while they meet new friends. We dare you to look at these photos and not smile.

We hope you’re hungry. Our friends at Greenville News put together a list of 10 places to try soul food in the Upstate, and it was far too delicious not to share.

Bobby’s BBQ

From brisket to pulled pork and jackfruit to smoked turkey, you’ll find something to make your mouth water at Bobby’s.

Low Country Shrimper

We’re on the see food diet. When we see food, we eat it. Known for its shrimp and grits, this spot features some favorite seafood dishes prepared Creole style.

Nana’s Kitchen

Try the scratch-made chicken and waffles or hamburger steak and gravy.

O.J.'s Diner

This spot has been around for ~20 years, and when you taste the food served cafeteria-style, you’ll understand why.
