Sober Curious? This test could help. | Photo by Getty Images
Dry January gains momentum each year as more Americans join the sober curious movement to rethink their broader relationship with alcohol. A 2024 survey found that 41% of all American adults planned to reduce alcohol consumption throughout the year, highlighting a growing trend toward moderation (and mocktails).
Taking a break from alcohol doesn’t just benefit mental clarity — it can also improve liver health. Studies suggest that two to four weeks of abstinence may reduce signs of liver inflammation and improve overall liver function.
Labcorp OnDemand’s Liver Health Test provides a deeper understanding of your liver’s condition by screening for inflammation, potential disease, or fibrosis. With Dry January as the perfect starting point for healthier habits, this test helps you gain valuable insights into your wellness journey.
Now through Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Liver Health Test is available for 25% off, no code needed. Make 2025 the year you prioritize your health.
City Tavern is getting a makeover. The classic dive bar will undergo a multi-part transformation, including a facelift of the exterior and renovations of the second + third floors. The first phase will start in March, and owner Scott Woods says he will be “protective of City Tavern’s well-earned charm.” (The Post and Courier Greenville)

City Editor Stephanie here. Sunday, Jan. 19 is my 31st birthday and to celebrate, I wanted to share my 31 favorite things in and about the city.
I pulled out some highlights, and they’re in no particular order. Also, enjoy this picture of my cat, Soy Sauce.
Breeze Airways flights directly to LAX from GSP | One of my best friends lives in LA, and it’s been great to be able to fly there on a budget + not have any pesky layovers.
Fried pickles from The BlueFin | There’s not much in life that I think can’t be improved by a pickle.
Local Cue | Fun fact: I had my 25th, 30th, and 31st birthday party there.
Pineapple cake from Brick Street Cafe | Put down your torches and pitchforks because I love the sweet potato cake, but have you ever had the pineapple cake?
A reading journal. Use it to write notes about the books you’re reading — like quotes that catch your eye, pages you want to come back to, and your overall rating. Pro tip: Use multicolor pens to make filling out your journal even more fun.
For a lot of people (Who am I kidding? Most people.), January is the worst month of the year. As someone on the committee of the unofficial “January is actually really fun” club, and someone who happens to have a birthday in January, my question is: How can you not have fun in January when Greenville has so many things going on?
