We’re taking you inside before anyone else. | Photos by GVLtoday
Greenville’s very own upscale bodega in the West End will open very soon, and we’re taking you inside for your first sneak peek. The Spinx Market & Eatery is a new “alternative format” from the Spinx brand, and if you think this is your typical gas station convenience store (minus the pumps), think again.
It’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before from the gas station + car wash brand. Here are some of our favorite things about the new downtown shopping experience:
The food | From sandwiches and soups to flatbreads and, of course, Spinx chicken, you can conveniently order on the touch screens and leave with a meal for under $10.
The drinks | Grab a crispy fountain beverage (with the good ice), sip on one of the blends Methodical Coffee made exclusively for the market + order a glass of beer or wine to enjoy on the patio. There are two brews made by Double Stamp that you’ll only find at the market.
The market will be open seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. Follow @thespinxmarket on Instagram and stay tuned for an official opening date.
SCDOT is repairing a landslide near the airport ramp at Exit 57 on I-85 North, which will close the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport entrance to Aviation Parkway via the SC-14 entrance ramp. Follow the detour signs to access the airport from Exit 60 (SC-101).
Closed
Swamp Mart, Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery’s Main Street grab-and-go location, is closed. “That hurricane really whipped our butts,” a social media post says. The store says it hopes this isn’t a goodbye forever, but it needs to focus on relief efforts, catching up on its supply chain + kitchen prep, and helping out its affected vendors.
Festival
The Greenville Craft Beer Festival is postponed with a new spring date coming soon. The festival was set to take place Nov. 9, but with Fall for Greenville, organizers say it will affect their ability to execute the festival. The rescheduled event will donate 100% of net profits to breweries affected by Helene in the Carolinas.
Eat
Go Soby’s, it’s ya birthday. To celebrate 27 years of this downtown institution, you can grab a $50 gift card for just $25 from now until Monday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m.
Number
312 days. That’s how long Rellie has been at the Greenville Humane Society. A local kid whose family fostered her during Helene wrote a handwritten letter of recommendation in hopes another family give her a chance and adopt her, describing Rellie as a “cuddle bug” + “the sweetest dog.” He writes, “She will be a great addition to your family.”

Our readers’ local horror date stories
Sometimes it takes a while to find your fellow pumpkin head. | Photo by COLAtoday
But what about those date stories that still haunt you to this day — you know, like if you were ever ghosted or thought you were getting ready to meet the love of your life but ended the night with a date night story that your friends still bring up + will never let you live down?
Turn off the lights and cue the perfectly-timed lightning — it’s time to share your top horror date night stories that took place around Greenville; just in time for Halloween.
Here are the rules
This is supposed to be a commiserative + fairly light-hearted story. Unburden yourselves of embarrassing date nights, cringe moments you’ll never forget... etc.
Keep your stories PG-rated.
Don’t use real names. Keep everyone anonymous; even you will be kept anonymous.
Pro tip: For bonus points, use some classic Halloween character names.

This weekend features one of my favorite events in Greenville: The Second Annual Polo Classic raises money for the Meyer Center for Special Children, which serves 108 local children. Last year, I not only learned more about this organization and the programs it offers, but I learned a whole lot about polo like chukkers + stomping divots. I’ll be a pro spectator this year.
