The grant came from the US Department of Transportation’s RAISE program. RAISE stands for “Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity” and donates to “projects that have a significant local or regional impact.” RAISE chose 148 projects to give funding to, and this is the only one in SC.
What?
The extension will connect ~20 miles of the trail from West Blue Ridge Drive to Poinsett Highway. The grant will also fund two new bridges on West Blue Ridge Drive and Sulphur Springs Road + an e-bike charging station.
When?
According to the Post and Courier Greenville, who originally broke the story, work should begin in February of 2026.
City officials have wanted to increase safety on that portion of the trail for quite a while, and the addition to the trail will help by creating a separate (away from the road) connection to the SRT as a whole.
Don’t forget, the city wants your input on the SRT, so take the survey below next time you hit the trail.

Hi Greenville. City Editor Stephanie here. Thanks to everyone who read our GVLtoday Book Club Q2 book, “First Lie Wins” by Ashley Elston. Here’s what you had to say about it.
“Frustrated trying to follow the main character. Disappointed with the ending and lack of clues to who the boss was.” — HKuta
“A page turner! The whole book keeps you guessing.” — Mari777
“This book was an interesting read. I enjoyed it until the very end. The ending was rushed and not as satisfying as I was anticipating. The plot heavily relies on the anecdotes from years’ past which was, in theory, a good literary choice, but the execution made it confusing to follow at times. This is a book that would make for a great TV series or movie.” — Olivia J.
Our book for Q3 is “The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave. Reminder: You have until Monday, Sept. 30 to read + share your feedback.
