The Augusta Road area could see changes to its roads as the City of Greenville plans phase two of its “Augusta Street Safety Improvement Plan — a future project that has neighbors and business owners talking.

We’re breaking down the proposed changes and letting you know how to share your feedback with city leadership.

Phase One

In 2021, a road safety audit was conducted for phase one of this plan. The City of Greenville says it received “predominantly positive feedback from residents and commuters.”

Phase Two

In addition to upgrading sidewalks, modifying traffic signals, and landscaping some medians in the residential and commercial areas of Augusta Road, the City of Greenville has also proposed possible changes.

For the residential area (between Cureton Street and Mauldin Road) the proposed changes include:
  • Resurfacing
  • Changing the Old Augusta Road + Riverside Drive Intersection to include a southbound right-turn lane along Augusta Street
  • Changing the Mauldin Road intersection by eliminating the merge
For the commercial area (between Church and Cureton Streets) the proposed changes include:
  • Reducing lanes in the northbound direction to add left-turn-only lanes in both directions
  • Undergrounding of utilities between Cateechee Avenue and Faris Road

Meeting info

A public meeting is coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 2310 Augusta St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meeting will cover:
  • An update on phase two
  • A presentation about how public input has shaped the project
  • A question-and-answer session
  • Next steps
  • Opportunities to talk with city staff at information stations

It’s no surprise when people fall in love with our city. We’re biased, but we think Greenville is the best. It still never gets old when someone comes to town and sees how wonderful it is to live here.

Stevie Nicks, who played in front of a sold-out crowd at Bon Secours Wellness Arena earlier this week, had this to say when she was on stage.
“I love this city. Over the past four days, I can honestly say, I could live here no problem. I really feel that way. It’s a beautiful place and we’ve had an amazing time. We’re sorry to be leaving.”
Well, Stevie, if you’re reading this, we’d love to have you back. Let us know if you’re up for a Q+A so we can learn about your favorite Greenville spots. Did you see this music icon around town? Click the button below to let us know.
