Furman University unveiled $40 million of renovations coming to Timmons Arena.
These upgrades are phase two of a three-phase transformation of the arena. The $40 million will be used to:
Add donor suites
Add premium seating and hospitality
Improve the student experience
Enhance food, beverage, and merchandise concession areas
Upgrade the entrance and exterior
Make changes to the court and seating area

“The vision: to transform Timmons Arena into a first-class facility that will stand among the best in the NCAA and help to secure the Paladins’ place among the nation’s most competitive Division I teams,” the university shared in a statement.

Phase I, which is already complete, included upgrades to basketball offices, locker rooms, and film rooms.
Once Phase II is complete, the university will raise funds to build a dedicated practice facility for men’s and women’s basketball.

“Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive” — That’s what I was singing after I left Prisma Health Heart Hospital after a recent education for Hands-Only CPR and how to use an AED (read: automated external defibrillator).
COLAtoday City Editor David here. At 104 beats per minute, “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees is the pace you push when using Hands-Only CPR. The education left me feeling empowered by the knowledge and like I was ready to help save a life.
Heart disease doesn’t discriminate, affecting men and women across the country, but especially here in South Carolina. It’s a sobering thought — one that makes learning CPR and AED use not just useful, but essential.
What we tried:
Dawn Kimura, RN, guided me through our session and debunked the myth that heart attack symptoms are always like what we see on TV. It’s not just about dramatic chest clutching — symptoms can range from shortness of breath and unexpected fatigue to a persistent backache.
Do you know what to do in the case of a heart emergency?
Driftwood, a new cafe and bar, is coming to The Village of West Greenville in the former Growler Haus location. The food and drink menus will “focus on high-quality ingredients, but unfussy presentations.” (The Post and Courier Greenville)

What’s going on with the Taco Boy coming to Laurens Road? According to the Upstate Business Journal, the restaurant will be “shifting its focus” to the Greenville location later this year. The restaurant says it wants to focus on its new NC locations before giving Laurens Road its full attention.

Sorry Harambe fans. The City of Mauldin announced its pedestrian bridge is named the “Mauldin Gateway Bridge.” The bridge near BridgeWay Station went viral last year after a Google Maps marker called it the “Harambe Memorial Bridge.” (Greenville Journal)

Sip, sip, hooray. Fireforge Crafted Beer earned three medals at the 2024 World Beer Championships. The brewery won gold medals for best flavored ale (Pecan Artist) + best Hefeweizen (He Ain’t Hefe, He’s My Brother). Its Oktoberfest brew also won silver in the Märzen/Oktoberfest category.

Applications are now open for Leadership Greenville, the Greenville Chamber’s 10-month leadership development program. Participants work in teams on a volunteer project to support leadership in Greenville County. Applications are due Monday, April 1.

March | Construction will be finished on phase two of Sliding Rock Trail in Nicholtown.
Spring | The bidding process for the new Cleveland Park pedestrian bridge with a Greenville Zoo connection will proceed.
Summer | The bidding process for the Laurens Road green line extensions to Nicholtown, Gower, and Verde will proceed.
Other updates include a new pedestrian bridge over Verdae Boulevard, large-scale pavement repairs, the Airport Loop Trail, a North Main trail connector, and a Timmons Park Connector.
