Try This: Pet cows at Moo Cow Farms

Hey Greenville, City Editor Stephanie here. If you’re anything like me, you jump at the chance to pet an animal. I’m talking any time, any place, any circumstance. So, my husband took me to Moo Cow Farms — 119 Mosley Rd., Simpsonville — which is basically a petting zoo in the cow’s back yard.

As you can probably guess, I loved it.

What we tried

You spend ~60 to 75 minutes on the farm. The tour guide provides you with snacks (for the cows, not you), brushes (again, for the cows), and then you’re off.

Make sure you’re wearing closed-toe shoes, as these fluffy little (huge) guys and gals weigh 1,000+ lbs., and although they are friendly, they don’t have the fanciest of foot-work.

What we’re still talking about

One thing that bothers me about typical petting zoos is that I never learn the animal’s names. Not so at Moo Cow.

You are personally introduced to all the cows — by name — and are told things about their personality. For example: This one is feisty, this one likes back scratches, this one doesn’t care for “Old McDonald.”

Along the way, the tour guide is teaching you everything you could ever want to know about cows. What they eat, how much they sleep, etc. I feel like a cow expert now.

How to try this

Moo Cow Farms stays busy, so they highly recommend booking well in advance and pricing varies by age. Pro tip: Your GPS will take you directly to the farm, but you’re supposed to park at the fire station at the beginning of the street.

This is a great activity for couples, families, and kids. The experience is one-of-a-kind, and well worth doing — unless you don’t want to pet adorable cows for an hour. Click the button below to book your spot.

Students are gaining financial literacy at The Branch at Greenville High

They say money makes the world go ‘round, but according to Greenville High senior Kendred Walker, it’s more about the people.

We visited the Greenville Federal Credit Union branch located inside Greenville High School (aka The Branch at Greenville High) and spoke with Kendred — who works as an auditor in the student-run branch — about his experience.

This branch — as well as The Branch at Greer High, which opened this school year — enables high school students to earn course credit while gaining real-life experience and preparation for both college and their future careers. The fully functioning credit union branch offers students, faculty, and staff access to financial services like savings and checking accounts, debit cards, and online banking.

Here’s what Kendred had to say:

Tell us about the application process for this job.

Kendred had an internship with Greenville Federal Credit Union last summer and loved it, so he wanted to continue on during the semester. “You sign up like you would with a regular class, but then you get interviewed. They only chose seven people, and I’m the only auditor.”

I’m not much of a cook, so I’m thrilled when local spots offer pre-made Thanksgiving food, or really any food for that matter.

My husband and I love the Shepard’s pie and chicken pot pie from Fork and Plough. Just pop it in the oven and bam — dinner plus leftovers.
