🥾 $10 million for the Saluda Grade Trail

South Carolina’s 2023-2024 budget includes $10 million for the Saluda Grade Trail

The Saluda Grade Trail Conservancy will receive $10 million in funding from the SC State Legislature’s 2023-2024 budget to purchase the Saluda Grade Trail — a 31-mile multi-purpose trail that will pass through Inman, Campobello, Landrum, Tryon, Saluda, and Zirconia.

This comes ~three months after the group reached an agreement with Norfolk Southern, establishing the purchase price and other terms of a future purchase.

As a result, the Conservancy will continue its work to secure federal and state funding to close on the rail trail within the next two years. Additionally, the Conservancy will begin reaching out to landowners located along the trail this summer to seek input on opportunities and challenges that the trail may pose.

The Conservancy’s preliminary impact study revealed that the state’s investment “will net $45 million in economic impact” + that the trail is expected to attract 125,000 visitors each year. Learn more.
