What’s the key to success in college football? Talent, support, and mental strength.

When Dabo Swinney became the Head Football Coach at Clemson in 2009, one of the first things he did was hire a performance psychologist.

“I recognized that so much of this game is mental,” said Coach Swinney. “As I built my staff and infrastructure, I wanted to make sure that I provided my players and staff with all the resources that they needed to be successful.”

So, he brought in Milt Lowder, co-founder/owner of AMPLOS. This Greenville-based company (whose name is a Latin word for ‘grow or develop’) utilizes their team of trained psychologists and performance coaches to help individuals, teams, and organizations maximize their potential with a proven, 16-years-running model — asking the following to help each individual client:

  1. How can we improve your overall wellbeing emotionally and mentally?
  2. At the same time, how can we optimize and improve your performance?

Milt has since met with the Clemson team each week for 13 seasons, and, according to Coach, “has been an integral part of our success since 2009.”

This success story of training folks on mental clarity to do the best job possible is one of many that stretches across other teams and organizations — including Sept. 4 rival UGA Football, which AMPLOS’ other co-founder/owner Drew Brannon has been working with on and off in different capacities since 2006.

Similarity to AMPLOS’ partnership with Clemson, Brannon interacts with UGA players, position groups, coaches, and staff for a variety of purposes, including designing the off-season mental conditioning program, providing individual player mental performance consultations, assisting with leadership development, helping create a high performance environment + more.

So, how does sports psychology correlate with corporate companies? The common denominator is performance outcomes. Football teams and businesses are both focused on competing to win in their respective spaces. To achieve that, AMPLOS believes that wellbeing and performance go hand in hand. You won’t find one without the other.

Everything AMPLOS does focuses on driving the comprehensive health and wellbeing of individuals, teams, and organizations to optimize and enhance who they are and how they do things to pursue their goals with passion + intensity.

The AMPLOS Philosophy:

According to AMPLOS, what separates the good from the great is mental strength. So, their model of individualized training focuses on mental health and performance, whether on the field or in the boardroom.

AMPLOS’ training helps employers + employees uncover the variables that are present when they’re at their best. One of their favorite exercises to do with corporate clients is to have them finish the sentence, “I’m at my best when ____,” because we’re not always aware of that X factor. But once we’ve identified it, we can recreate it to set ourselves up for success and higher performance — and ultimately, better relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, and our work.
