“The Boy Who Cried Bully”

Bully 2017

Bullying Prevention is a topic South Carolina Children’s Theatre is very passionate about. We strive to bring awareness and education to Upstate schools each fall through our touring production of “The Boy Who Cried Bully" and our Sixth Grade Bullying Prevention Workshops.

Last year we were able to reach 5,969 students with our programming which is shaped in an entertaining and engaging format, easy for students to relate to. It isn’t often that we get the opportunity to perform “The Boy Who Cried Bully” for the PUBLIC where parents and their children can watch the performance and begin an open dialogue about this serious threat to our young people.

“The Boy Who Cried Bully” is loosely based on the Aesop’s fable, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.” It utilizes a cartoon-like humor to engage the audience. We have done our best to pack as many silly moments into the show as possible. The show is peppered with physical comedy for the youngest audience members and humorous references for the adults in the room.

Although “The Boy Who Cried Bully” targets 3rd graders in the schools; the humor and energy make it a wonderful way to create a point of reference for all members of the family as they face bullying behavior in years to come.

Our goal is to equip students with the terminology, knowledge, understanding, and confidence to not only report these instances but support each other if they see other students in similar situations. It is a privilege to work for an organization that values this program.

The need is strong for opportunities like this, especially with the rise of cyber-bullying, a topic we address in our programs. We hope that by offering this show to public audiences that our impact in creating a bully-free atmosphere will only grow.

“The Boy Who Cried Bully” will open to the public for 4 performances Oct. 27 & Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. and Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. Performances will take place at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.
