Hey, Greenville — how you doin’? No, really, how are you? After the recent passing of the COVID lockdown anniversary, people have been painfully reminded of how isolating this past year has been. With losses of every kind — loved ones, jobs, normalcy — people across the world have struggled with mental health more than ever over the past year.

Many — especially millennials — have turned to online therapy for help, earning those in their 20s and 30s the title of the Therapy Generation. The influx in therapy-goers has helped normalize therapy and remove the stigma from seeking support.

And here in Greenville, Lumin, whose motto is “modern therapy for awesome people,” is aiming to redefine therapy for local clients looking for a fresh, holistic take on mental health treatment from a personal and career perspective.

About Lumin:

Rewinding to pre-pandemic: Accomplished New York therapist Dr. Angelica Perez-Litwin (who’s worked with Google, Columbia and Harvard University) had been in private practice for 15 years before she moved to Greenville ~4 years ago. She quickly realized there was a need to provide both therapy and career mentoring to help advance the lives of busy professionals in the Upstate, so she launched her own group practice with fellow accomplished therapists + career mentors: Lumin (306A Mills Ave., off Augusta Rd.).

Latin for “light,Lumin is driven by the idea of gaining insight and understanding in an illuminating, feel-good space. Lumin’s philosophy? Going to therapy should feel like going to Starbucks (or your fav local coffee shop). It should be a relieving, re-energizing self-care moment (with no stigma attached), taking place in a physically calming environment. Lumin features 16 windows to drench the building in light and connect clients to nature, plus plants, local artwork, and mid-century modern furniture.

Specialties:

Lumin’s team is made up of highly experienced clinicians who’ve served and led in multiple settings, including private practice, hospitals, research centers, and community mental health clinics. They are committed to helping clients achieve emotional resilience, personal growth, confidence, and joy; working collaboratively with clients to relieve depression and anxiety, manage stress, deal with life and career transitions, address trauma, and achieve professional wellbeing, among other services. The goal is to target specific areas of a client’s life, equipping them with tools to use beyond their sessions.

While Lumin treats an array of clients, their main clientele are ambitious professionals, career-focused millennials and students. Work is an important part of this clientele’s life, so Lumin addresses both mental wellbeing and career success so clients can become more productive, happier, and have a better work-life balance.
