🥇 Go for gold in Greenville

The Winter Olympics opening ceremony is today on Peacock + WYFF 4. Unfortunately, there are no athletes from Greenville representing Team USA — in fact, no one from South Carolina is heading to Northern Italy to compete. You could buck that trend in four years’ time if you sign up to learn a new sport at one of these spots:
Hockey | Explore open practice sessions, adult pick-up games, kids leagues, or just ice skating lessons at The Pavilion.
Figure skating | The Greenville Figure Skating club also calls The Pavilion Home and caters to youth skaters and adult skaters of various skill levels.
Curling | The Palmetto Curling Club hosts league play on Tuesday nights at The Pavilion, but it also has a learn-to-play clinic coming up Tuesday, Feb. 17 and Tuesday, Feb. February 24.
Skiing + snowboarding | These winter sports require a drive beyond Taylors, but we are under two hours from multiple ski resorts in NC — and might we recommend a tubing trip for some winter thrills with even less of a drive?
The old Cafe and Then Some building may be redeveloped into “The Banter,” a 17-room boutique hotel with a restaurant, rooftop bar, and speakeasy-style basement club. Aileron Management’s Jason Boehm teased the concept on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at a Greenville City Economic Development Corporation real estate breakfast at Unity Park. (Upstate Business Journal)
Sports
Whether you’re watching for the game, the halftime show, or the commercials (which cost a pretty penny this year — keep scrolling for more on that), our list of local sports bars will help you pick the perfect spot for Super Bowl Sunday.

The Greenville Triumph will open its 2026 season with three March home matches at Furman University’s Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium before moving into its new stadium — GE Vernova Park at BridgeWay Station — in May.
Real Estate
Just hit the market — this Augusta Road area brick bungalow boasts four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 2,200 sqft. The covered front porch (look at that swing!) oozes curb appeal, and the upstairs loft with built-ins and brick looks straight off HGTV.
Traffic
Heads up for Wade Hampton drivers: SCDOT is taking public comment through March 4 on planned repairs to the US Highway 29 bridge over the Enoree River near the Taylors post office. The work would address structural issues, remove load restrictions, and extend the bridge’s lifespan. (Greenville Journal)
Civic
No Dreams Deferred — a local performing arts community theater nonprofit — plans to build an intimate black-box theater at the Phillis Wheatley Community Center. The proposed 75-seat space would support more frequent performances. The project will go before the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals next month. (Greenville Journal)
Environment
After decades of environmental injustice, the Newtown community is shaping its own future with a master plan prioritizing equity, ecosystem restoration, and wellness. Cleaning up the longstanding contamination is key – and the South Carolina Environmental Law Project is helping make it happen. Learn more about how you can support their work.*

Does anyone have $8 million lying around? That’s the reported average cost of a 30-second commercial during this Sunday’s Super Bowl, with some of the more coveted time slots reaching $10 million.
What could that amount of money buy you in Greenville?
800,000 days of parking in downtown garages — aka 2,191 years — even with the recent increase in fees.
2 million loaves of Stecca from Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery — enough for every single Greenville County resident to have three.
This mountain retreat on Lake Toxaway ~1.5 hours from Greenville with a state-of-the-art media room, an old world-style wine cellar, private boathouse and dock, and a sunken hot tub just off the primary suite.

The Buy
A best-selling pair of waterproof boots designed to keep your toes warm and dry in any weather. We love that this pair boasts a warm faux fur lining and a slip-resistant rubber outsole.
I may not have won an Olympic gold, but I have met someone who has. Curler Matt Hamilton plays in the BMW Charity Pro-Am from time-to-time, and he won gold in 2018 in PyeongChang. If he comes back and you meet him, he just might have it in his pocket for photo ops. He’s also just about the nicest guy you’ve ever met.
