If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, this won’t be the year, with the forecast calling for almost 70° on Christmas Eve and 65° on Christmas Day. The Weather Channel took a statistical deep dive, looking at how a white Christmas “isn’t the norm most years” for most of the country.
But Greenville has seen its fair share of winter weather events, and we’re looking back at some of the most memorable.
Greenville’s great snowfall of 1988
On Jan. 7, Greenvillians woke up to a snowstorm that lasted two days, bringing 12 inches of fresh powder.

While the day did bring its fair share of grief — like acollapsed awning at The Clock on Wade Hamptonand stranded vehicles on I-85 — it’s certain that residents also celebrated the snowfall by skiing up Main Street in downtown Greenville.

Every corner counts: Soccer kicks make a difference

This season, Clemson Athletics’ men’s and women’s soccer teams proved that every corner kick can make a difference far beyond the field.
Together, the teams attempted an impressive 114 corner kicks — and Novant Health turned each one into something even more meaningful. In a pledge designed to support children facing critical illnesses, Novant Health committed $100 for every corner, resulting in a donation that directly benefits Make-A-Wish® South Carolina.
The contribution helps grant life-changing wishes for children in our local community, offering hope, joy, and moments of relief during some of their hardest days. Ryan D. Lee, president of Novant Health Greenville, had the honor of presenting the donation, underscoring how powerful community partnerships can be when athletics and healthcare come together for a cause.
It’s a reminder that every kick, every effort, and every act of giving can create a meaningful impact on and off the field.
The City of Greenville ended the fiscal year with an $8 million budget surplus after several departments came in under budget. The funds were moved to the city’s capital reserves, supporting future projects while helping Greenville stay ahead of its long-term GVL2040 growth plan. (Spectrum News)
