The grassroots effort to help Western NC after Helene | I will never forget the feeling on the runway watching planes take off, packed with supplies for our neighbors in need after Helene. The community raised $265,000 to fund this grassroots operation, and it was one of the most memorable stories of my career.
A film about Sum Bar won a James Beard award | The team behind the film “Great Wall,” including owner of Sum Bar Khailing Neoh, are a joy to write about. Celebrating this award through this story was definitely a highlight of 2024.
Pimento cheese taste test | There are also moments in this job where I have to pinch myself that I get to call this work. One of those days was eating a lot of pimento cheese to tell you which would be best for your Masters parties. ICYMI, Soby’s won.

City Editor Stephanie’s Top Stories

Meet one of GVLtoday’s biggest fans | I loved grabbing lunch with reader and GVLtoday fan Lara Wheless, who has an epic IMDB page.
Meme-worthy animals at the Greenville Zoo | Moo Deng broke the internet this year, and while we may not have a pygmy hippo, we do have plenty of meme-worthy animals in our town that deserve their chance to go viral. Writing about these cute critters was a dream.
Join GVLtoday’s book club | What better way to get to know your community + participate in your favorite hobby than by starting a city-wide book club? Reading for work is next-level.
