We asked, and you answered: The key to impressing guests is “setting the perfect vibe.” Before welcoming family and friends into your home this holiday season, consider these five tips to enhance the vibe in your spaces — at up to 80% off.

Yes, Black Friday came early. Now until Sunday, Dec. 1, you can snag the lowest prices of the year during Wayfair’s extended Black Friday sale. Psst... Check back on Dec. 2 for Cyber Monday deals, too.

Here’s what we recommend checking off your list:

1. Set the scene with seasonal decor

When your guests arrive, greet them with festive holiday decorations like these sparkling outdoor lights and this illuminated pine cone garland. It’s giving classy winter wonderland.

2. Upgrade the guest bedroom

If your old mattress lives in your spare room, it may be time for an upgrade. While you’re at it, these extra-soft luxury sheets and this chic upholstered bed were designed to wow.

Pro tip: Warm lighting makes for an extra-cozy atmosphere. These dimmable Edison light bulbs will do the trick.

3. Minimize clutter

Storage doesn’t have to be an eyesore. You can tuck away miscellaneous items (think: books and games) in this extendable coffee table and store shoes in this natural rattan shoe storage cabinet that always seems to be trending online.

4. Boost the bathrooms

A few simple changes will elevate any bathroom. Spruce up your linen collection with a new set of fluffy towels, and designate a mindful space to store them.

Pro tip: Swapping out the bathroom mirror can go a long way, and this modern corner-hang mirror is straightforward to install.

5. Don’t skimp on seating

It’s important that your guests have somewhere comfortable (and stylish) to sit. We think this best-selling linen accent chair or vintage-inspired velvet sofa would help pull together a living room. You could even go all-out with this contemporary massage recliner.

News Notes

Shop

In need of some last minute groceries on Thanksgiving day? The Greenville News put together a list of Upstate grocery stores that will be open on turkey day.

Transit

Nine bridges — including the South Hudson Street bridge near Unity Park — across the Upstate will remain closed until 2025 due to Helene damage. According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, these bridges were “damaged beyond repair” and need to be totally replaced. (The Post and Courier Greenville)

Cause

It’s the season of giving. The Julie Valentine Center is asking for gift card donations so clients can purchase holiday gifts for their families. If you’re interested, fill out this form and help our old pal Santa out.

Open

During the holiday season, you can get your favorite drinks + snacks from Southernside Brewing Co. seven days a week. Normally closed on Mondays, Southernside is opening its doors every Monday this holiday season to help spread some cheer (and beer) with Miracle at Southernside.

State

We’re seeing greens. According to voting results from Zippia, South Carolina’s favorite Thanksgiving side is collard greens. The overall favorite dish in the US is mashed potatoes, followed closely by rolls. More savory stats here. (Greenville News)

We’re Gratefull for GVL

Gratefull GVL — a free, city-wide community lunch — happened yesterday, Nov. 23. This reel speaks for itself, but let’s take a closer look at the event by the numbers.
  • 44. That’s how many restaurants donated food. We spotted restaurants like The Lazy Goat, Indigo Kitchen, and Papi’s Tacos.
  • ~5,000. That’s how many people the Gratefull GVL team expected to feed this year, which is up from the 3,000+ people who got a hot meal at the inaugural event in 2019.
  • 200+. That’s how many volunteers helped make this event happen.
Co-Chair of Gratefull GVL Mary Beth Cross told us, “I think, in short, Gratefull GVL is an amazing display of what it’s like to live in Greenville. It’s a celebration of diversity and inclusion, it’s a coming together on the Main Street Bridge to share a meal and a conversation.”

The Wrap

GVLtoday Stephanie headshot
Gratefull GVL was a truly magical experience and I’m so happy that I got to attend this year. Greenville is unlike any other city I’ve visited, and I am honored to be a Greenvillian. As if I needed another reason to love this city.
