Boyd Cycling aspires to make the most durable and functional performance wheels on Earth. | Photos by Boyd Cycling
For our next installment of Invest Local — a series in which we shine light on ways Greenvillians can invest their time, talent, and treasure, locally — we’re showcasing Boyd Cycling, located here in the Upstate.
Valued at $6.2 million, Boyd Cycling has been building high-quality bike wheels for more than 15 years. Think: Wheels to brave roads, tracks, mountains, gravel, and cyclocross courses. Now, the biz is gearing up to go worldwide.
The vision
Professional-cyclists-turned-entrepreneurs Nicole and Boyd Johnson co-founded Boyd Cycling in 2009 as an “all things cycling” company. The duo met through racing, got married, and have been building their business ever since.
At first, they sold everything from bike frames to accessories. But in 2011, they went all-in on wheels. They designed their own rims and hubs + launched their in-house product line in 2013, gaining national acclaim. Psst... all wheels are built in Greenville.
Through Vicinity, you could help take this Greenville business worldwide.

In 2021, Boyd Cycling started Olive Manufacturing Group, an aluminum rim manufacturing company based in Greenville. And in early 2024, it acquired German carbon rim manufacturer Munich Composites and created twin capabilities in the US. Why? To acquire their patented, innovative carbon weaving technology and onshore foreign manufacturing jobs to the Upstate.
Investment opportunity
With the brand established, technology developed, and opportunity identified, Boyd Cycling is shifting gears and taking its well-known US company worldwide. The goal: Become a globalleader in premium wheels and give our community a chance to participate in that growth.

Here’s an update on SC’s first College of Veterinary Medicine at Clemson

We’re less than two years from the first class of 80 students at Clemson University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, which will open in 2026. ICYMI, this is the university’s first professional school and the first-of-its kind program in SC.
Dean Steven Marks told Greenville Journal, “They’re [Clemson] a well-established agricultural-based university and they’ve always felt like they were missing a college of veterinary medicine.”
Next steps
The school can’t officially enroll students until it receives a letter of accreditation (called the Letter of Reasonable Assurance) from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education. Marks said the letter is expected to arrive in 2025.
In addition to finalizing the curriculum and hiring facility + staff, Stacia Harris — the marketing and communications director — is tasked with promoting the new school. “I’ve been overwhelmed by how enthusiastic and supportive folks have been,” Harris said. If you’re so inclined, feel free to tell your friends about it, too.

After my last wrap about my trip to LA, we’ve had several readers ask why Breeze Airways flights seem to be discontinued from GSP. Don’t worry, we asked.
GSP told us “Breeze Airways launched seasonal routes this summer, and we anticipate its return in Spring 2025, along with the possibility of new markets with the airline.” Just keep your eye out for the schedule, and happy travels.
