The sale, featuring thousands of donated books (last year’s sale featured 100,000+ books), is Greenville Literacy Association’s (GLA) largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit’s mission of “enriching our community by increasing the literacy + employability of our citizens.”

Volunteer

Attend the kick-off party
Tickets are on sale now for Friday night’s kick-off party.For $50 (or $90 for two), your ticket gets you early access to shop the sale as you sip on drinks and listen to live music.
Shop the sale
The sale runs Saturday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. + Sunday, Aug. 11, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Entry is free. Pro tip: Come prepared to walk away with your findings by having a box or bag handy.
How to donate
The deadline has passed to donate your used books for this year’s sale, but keep an eye on GLA’s donation page to find out when to donate for the 2025 sale.

Since 2002, most of the South Carolina Education Lottery’s proceeds have been set aside for state-provided scholarships to support students pursuing higher education. We’re talking more than $6 billion in assistance.

📝 Lottery-funded scholarships
South Carolina offers numerous need-based and merit-based scholarships and grants funded (but not decided) by the Lottery, including:
Wondering if you or a student you know is eligible to receive Lottery-funded financial aid? First, applicants must prove South Carolina residency.
Then, students must meet the qualifying criteria for whichever financial aid they’re interested in applying for. The qualifications vary for each scholarship + grant. Think: GPA, test scores, need, and more.
After 106 years of publishing newspapers, The Greer Citizen will close at the end of this month with a final edition on Wednesday, July 31. The publication cited the “national decline of print journalism” among the reasons for the closure.
Open
There’s something new brewing at Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery. The Swamp Rabbit Coffee Bar is now open, serving coffee, espresso drinks, pastries, draft beer, wine by the glass, and “some snackies.”
Closed
The Mountain House at Caesars Head — a cafe less than a half-mile from Caesars Head State Park — closed on July 2. The business said “circumstances beyond our control” caused the closure. (Upstate Business Journal)
