Music by the lake returns to Furman for the summer

What time is it? Summertime. The kickoff of “Sounds of Summer,” Furman’s free lakeside concert series, is this Thursday, May 30. Bring a chair or a picnic blanket, and get ready for a variety of genres all summer long.
All shows take place Thursdays at 7:30 p.m rain or shine (moving into McAlister Auditorium in the event of inclement weather):
Lakeside Concert Band | May 30 | This ensemble is directed by Sue Samuels and will perform throughout the summer.
Carolina Youth Symphony | June 6 | This orchestra of talented Upstate kids will take the stage.
Poinsett Winds | June 13 | Furman alumni and faculty make up this ensemble.
Greenville Chorale with the Lakeside Concert Band | June 27 | Enjoy a professional fireworks display as you listen to the 18th annual patriotic lakeside band concert.
Lakeside Concert Band with PaintJam | July 4 | Celebrate the Fourth of July with a speed-painting concert.
Matt Olson Jazz Quartet | July 18 | Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone at Furman takes the stage with his quartet.
The Foothills Brass Band with the Lakeside Concert Band | July 25 | Many of these musicians are music educators, from the elementary to the college level.
Lakeside Concert Band | Aug. 1 | Bid farewell to this summer series the same way we started, with a concert by the Lakeside Concert Band.

No. 3. That’s where Greenville ranked on Southern Living’s list of “The 15 Friendliest Cities In The South.” The publication writes, “A leisurely bike ride along the Swamp Rabbit Trail (with a stop for a treat at Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery) could turn even the deepest of frowns upside down.”

Drive-thru coffee concept Clutch Coffee Bar is opening a second Upstate location at 2407 E. North St. (formerly Liquid Highway) on Saturday, June 15. If you can’t wait for a taste, swing by the Taylors location at 3009 Wade Hampton Blvd.

Speaking of coffee news, we now know where Bridge City Coffee’s new location is headed: Reidville Road in Spartanburg (in collaboration with Parkside Pediatrics). The shop expects to open one week from today on June 5. (Upstate Business Journal)
Plan Ahead
Save the date for the City of Greenville’s third annual Juneteenth celebration on Wednesday, June 19. Festivities kick off at 9:30 a.m. with a parade from Falls Park along the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail to Unity Park where there will be a panel discussion + performances.
Drink
Cheers. Daydrinkers — located at 2903 Old Buncombe Rd. — will soon serve beer and wine, with a focus on local beverages. With the new menu additions, the shop will also extend its hours and remain open until 6 p.m. (Upstate Business Journal)

Swordfish Cocktail Club will host its first Ramen Night on Monday, June 3. A $21 ticket reserves your spot and a bowl of ramen + sake, beer, and cocktail pairings will be available to purchase during the event. Ramen calm and secure your seat.
