The Salvation Army unveils $16 million redesign plans

The Salvation Army of Greenville unveiled plans to revitalize its campus at 501 Rutherford St. The $16 million redesign will move all services — currently spread between five buildings — under one roof by adding corridors for connectivity.

Changes to the 45,000-sqft social services campus include:
  • Increasing the total number of beds from 93 to 143
  • Creating new transitional housing
  • Offering family units to keep couples + parents with children together
  • Expanding the dining hall and making it less “institutional”
  • Enhancing security
The chapel on the campus will remain, but will undergo improvements to complement the other updates.

    A first-of-its-kind used book store called SecondStory is coming to Greenville

    SecondStory — a new, used book store concept by Goodwill — will open Thursday, June 13 at 115 Haywood Rd. (next to the Goodwill location).

    The first-of-its-kind store will feature a wide selection for all types of readers including:
    • Books starting at $1
    • A curated selection of rare books (think: first editions, signed copies, and antique books)
    • Children’s books
    Every purchase at SecondStory will support Goodwill’s programs in the Upstate and Midlands. Get ready to shop 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

    For the book fans who are likely buzzing with excitement for SecondStory, a reminder the Book Warehouse Outlet opens this weekend with a bonus shopping day on Memorial Day. It was quite busy the last time I went, so I’m planning to make it a longer outing this time.
