The historic and rare solar event is due to a powerful geomagnetic storm. According to WYFF 4, NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center observed an “unusually active week for solar flares.”
In scientific terms: Four Coronal Mass Ejections merged as they hit Earth Friday night into early Saturday morning + extreme, G5 conditions reached Earth, which hasn’t happened since 2003. In plain terms: This was a really rare solar event.
