Hey there. It’s Danielle and Stephanie, the local City Editors you know and love. Allow us to pass the mic to 126 of our coworkers. (Yes, that’s right — an entire team is behind each day’s newsletter, and we couldn’t do it without them.)
We are 6AM City, the parent company of GVLtoday. We’re the people on a mission to engage communities by aggregating the most positive, impactful local news and events into a free, daily email newsletter. Maybe you caught the magic word in there — free. We’re proud that our product comes at no cost for subscribers, and we intend to keep it that way.
This week, we’re asking for support
We get hundreds of thank you emails every week, and we couldn’t be more grateful that we impact your lives. Several of you have asked how you can support us. We have a goal to raise $12,000 over the next 10 days, and we’re calling on you to join in.
You may have gotten something out of reading GVLtoday, like finding that life-changing concert in our Events section, or using our recommendations on the perfect way to spend the day with grandkids. If that was you, we’re calling on you now to support our mission.
Stress-free morning news
Fun fact: We’ve turned down more than a million dollars in political ads since we first started — we’re that serious about our brand promise. In election years like 2024, advertisers move their money around, and those fluctuations impact businesses like ours who don’t accept political ad dollars.
This year, your contribution will go incredibly far to support our staff, back an unbiased approach to local and participatory journalism, and keep our product free for the whole community.

Everything that goes down storm drain ends up directly in our local waterways. | Photo by GVLtoday
Do you know where stormwater goes?
When it rains, the water that flows into storm drains feeds directly into rivers, lakes, and streams — without being treated. Read: Anything that enters a storm drain, including contaminants picked up along the way, ends up in local waterways like the Reedy River.
These pollutants can cause major harm to aquatic life and habitats, so it’s important that only rain goes down the drain.
Taco Boy is no longer coming to Laurens Road. According to the listing agent for the property, Taco Boy’s team says it is “committed to the Greenville market in the long term” but claims its current resources are “best spent nurturing the stores opened in our latest growth phase.”

The future of Greenville is so bright, these ducks have to wear shades. | Photo by The Reedy River Duck Derby
Duck, duck, goose Greenville. The 20th annual Reedy River Duck Derby is taking over Falls Park this Saturday, May 4 at 2:30p.m.
What is the Duck Derby?
The Duck Derby is an annual fundraiser held by The Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville — a club, made up of “service-minded individuals,” who are involved in many service projects throughout Greenville County.
What happens at the event?
Picture this: You’re relaxing by the falls. Suddenly, you hear a bell and millions (okay more like ~14,000) rubber ducks start cascading down the waterfall with one goal in mind... winning one of these cool prizes.
How can I get involved?
It’s not too late to adopt your own duck (you can get a single duck or a pack) + you can also volunteer for the event.
A most-loved mother’s day gift so you’re prepared once Sunday, May 12 rolls around. Shop gifts great for mother figures, yourself, or anyone who deserves a little something.
I love going downtown during The Reedy River Duck Derby, and I especially love watching people who have no idea what’s going on wonder why there’s a giant duck with sunglasses walking around.
