Originally used in medical settings for its anesthetic and pain-relieving properties, ketamine usage has grown in popularity as an alternative treatment for mental health conditions.

We’ve brought in the experts from MindWell Health, a local, comprehensive mental healthcare facility, to talk us through five facts about ketamine and its potential mental health effects.
  1. Ketamine has been used in operating rooms and clinical settings since its development in the 1960s.
  2. Esketamine, a form of ketamine, has been designated as a Breakthrough Therapy by the FDA for treatment-resistant depression.
  3. Ketamine needs careful dosing and strict oversight to prevent side effects or abuse.
  4. Ketamine’s application in medical settings is grounded in the intention to treat specific mental health issues.
  5. It’s important to plan for integration support prior to your ketamine treatment so you can seamlessly move from your experience into working on lasting change.
