Fun fact: The Augusta National makes 100,000+ pimento cheese sandwiches per night at the Masters, and once inside the exclusive club, the signature dish will only cost you $1.50.
The pimento cheese sandwich lore runs deep with mystery surrounding the recipe, but if you’re like us + plan to watch from home — we’re ensuring you’ll serve the best pimento cheese sandwiches at your viewing parties.
We rounded up 13 pimento cheeses in Greenville and conducted a blind taste test.
The process
During the taste test, 10 employees at 6AM City’s office (the parent company of GVLtoday), scored the pimento cheeses on a scale of 1-10 + made notes about the texture, flavor, spreadability, and nostalgia-factor. We averaged the scores to declare the best pimento cheeses in Greenville.
The rules
The pimento cheese must be made in-house at local restaurants.
Because we’re talking about pimento cheese sandwiches — it must be tasted on white bread.
The winner
Soby’s landed the highest score for its “creamy,” “fluffy,” and “onion-y” spread that was described by one taster as “strong with great flavor.” The Southern comfort restaurant is a Greenville classic, so we weren’tshocked it took the top spot.
Editor’s picks
City Editor Danielle’s: Chadcuterie
Multiple voters described Chadcuterie’s pimento cheese as “nostalgic,” “bold,” and “classic” with a hint of Worcestershire sauce. This cheese came in second place and received “100% yes” + “the bomb” comments.
City Editor Stephanie’s: Duke’s Sandwich Co.
Duke’s was a controversial pimento cheese. Voters either loved it or hated it, and City Editor Stephanie was president of the “loved it” club. If you like a creamy spread with a strong mayo flavor, this one’s for you.

The Clemson Tigers’ historic season came to an end Saturday night when the team lost to Alabama in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
There’s still a lot to celebrate from this incredible run, so we’re rolling back the clock to some of Clemson’s most iconic March moments.
1939 | Clemson’s inaugural invite
Did you know Clemson actually turned down an invitation to participate in the first-ever NCAA Tournament? They opted not to spend the money to travel. At the time, the NIT was considered the more important tournament.
1980 | Clemson’s Cinderella story
Clemson’s Cinderella season — which also marked the Tigers’ first tournament appearance — took them to the Western finals in Tuscon, Arizona where they fell to powerhouse UCLA.
2018 | The Tigers bounce back
The Clemson Tigers made it to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1997, a big improvement from 2017 when the team didn’t even make the tournament.
We collaborated with our friends at COLAtoday to create a timeline celebrating all SC teams’ iconic tournament moments.

We love a spot off the beaten path around our city. We’re sharing our favorite hidden gems for when you’re looking for some quintessential Greenville while flying under the radar.
I love all of my newsletters, but this one was really fun to write. How many people get to taste pimento cheese and call it work? Plus, I had a blast digging through old newspapers to celebrate Clemson’s historic season. Oh... and for those “hidden gems,” APRIL FOOLS.
