For Valentine’s Day 2024, we made a map of local places where our readers have made memories. We asked for your help compiling everything from proposals to making friends. You did not disappoint.
Click the button below to explore these local love stories by clicking on the hearts on the map, but there’s just a few love stories that we just had to share:
“For our first date, I taught my now-husband how to drive stick in my old jeep around the University Ridge area. He was incredibly bad at it but didn’t give up. A limo driver waiting in the parking lot drove up to us and said, ‘She must really love you if she’s willing to put up with the amount you’re stalling.’” — Anonymous reader
“My husband I met at Fall for Greenville and we got to know each other while sipping random beers in the beer garden on McBee Avenue. Fast forward a few years and he proposed on the bench at the top of Falls Park, where we’d often sit and people watch after walks through the park. To this day we call it our bench and take all of our out-of-town visitors to see it.” — Amanda H.

Let’s take a look at this buzzworthy Columbia-based brewing company. | Photo provided by Peak Drift Brewing
Want a behind-the-scenes look at one of our SC brewing companies? We’re hoppy to give you one.
🍻 Meet the brewery
Founded in 2021, Peak Drift Brewing quickly captured a presence in the capital city with its 25,000-square-foot production facility on Main St. in downtown Columbia, located in the former Stone Manufacturing Company manufacturing facility (listed on the National Register of Historic Places).
👩🔬 Meet the master brewer
The company is headed by brewer Ashley Kinart-Short, hailing from the Midwest where she took the Wisconsin beer scene by storm before becoming a Carolinian. As one of the only female master brewers in the nation, she brings her 15 years of brewing experience to Peak Drift.
📍 Where to find them
This past fall, Greenville welcomed the brewery to the Upstate at Fall for Greenville and the iconic Euphoria Greenville. In 2024, Peak Drift plans to share more of its award-winning craft beers, hard seltzers, and non-alcoholic beverages around the Upstate.
The Vardry Kimpton, a multi-use development project featuring a hotel (with 116 rooms) and condos (with 29 units) near Fluor Field, will likely break ground this year.
