Faith, family, and philanthropy: A recap of Catholic Schools Week

Last week, St. Joseph’s Catholic School buzzed with activity as it celebrated Catholic Schools Week — an annual chance to connect with the community, celebrate service, and reaffirm the school’s core values.
Throughout the week, each House of the school — named after Saints Bakhita, Drexel, Molla, and Romero — participated in a diaper drive for Birthright of Greenville, a local organization supporting women experiencing unplanned pregnancies, by bringing diapers of assigned size.
Parents were invited all week to immerse themselves in the school’s vibrant Campus Ministry program, attending regular Middle School and High School Masses followed by lunches, evening meetings, and prayer sessions.
The week kicked off on Sunday with a call for community members to attend their local parish masses and contribute as greeters, ushers, altar servers, lectors, and more.
Monday
A fun door-decorating contest and a playful St. Joseph statue hunt started the school week.
Tuesday
Tuesday was all about celebrating the students with a free dress-down day. Parents joined their children for lunch or the Middle School Mass, strengthening the parent-school connection. Theology classes taught by esteemed faculty members were open to the community.
Wednesday
Wednesday’s highlight was the All-School Mass, the heart of the week’s celebrations. A lively saint trivia competition was held during Household, and parent involvement continued with Campus Ministry meetings and a potluck dinner.
Thursday
Thursday focused on vocations, and parents were invited to the TEAM (Totally Engaged in Advancing the Mission) meeting and Morning Prayer. Parents in Prayer and the Rosary, regular Thursday expressions of faith at St. Joseph’s, further nurtured the spiritual connection within the community.
Friday
The end of the week brought a final opportunity for Middle School and High School parents to participate in Campus Ministry meetings, and a weekly chance for families to receive Reconciliation.
Looking to learn more or provide your child with a Catholic education? Good news: Applications are now open for the 2024-2025 school year.

Whenever we’re feeling saucy, we like to dig into a slice of local pizza, especially on National Pizza Day. Greenville’s pizza scene is bubbling with options — and we keep finding ways to top ourselves.
If you’re on the quest for the perfect slice, we’ve pie-oneered a list of places to grab pizza that are definitely worth the dough.

Myles Pizza Pub, 555 S. Pleasantburg Dr. | Myles has been making pies for ~40 years, so we think it’s safe to say it knows pizza. City Editor Danielle’s tip: Order the cheesy bread and thank me later.
Your must-have from Six & Main’s winter skin edit, featuring face wash, lip balm, and serums to keep your skin hydrated and radiant during the cooler months. Did we mention all products are from small businesses, too?
As an Italian born in New York, it’s really hard for me to pick a favorite piece of pizza in Greenville. I find myself at The Slice quite a bit because it feels like a true New York slice. I also really love Myles Pizza Pub, which is more of a Midwest-style pizza, but I think the garlic bread is the star of the show there.
