We’ve felt the frigid temperatures in Greenville this winter, but we’re still waiting for snow. The good news is there are plenty of winter activities just a road trip away.
Instead of sitting home with snow envy, we’re rounding up places to ski, snowboard, and tube near Greenville, SC.
Skiing + snowboarding
Appalachian Ski Mountain | Blowing Rock, NC | ~2 hour 45 minute drive from Greenville | $27-$83 (lift tickets) + $17-$38 (rentals) | Calling all adventure seekers, this mountain — featuring twelve slopes, two terrain parks + an ice skating arena — is for you.
Beech Mountain Resort | Beech Mountain, NC | ~2 hour 45 minute drive from Greenville | $30-$96 (lift tickets) + $30-$45 (rentals) | With 17 trails and eight lifts, Beech Mountain makes for a great day trip from Greenville or an overnight trip with night skiing. Pro tip: Stop by Fred’s General Mercantile for a hot bite or all your ski rental needs.
Sugar Mountain Resort | Sugar Mountain, NC | ~2 hour 45 minute drive from Greenville | $32-$88 (lift tickets) + $19-$44 (rentals) | There’s a snow activity for everyone in the family including snowshoeing, skiing + snowboarding, ice skating, and snow tubing with 21 slopes and eight lifts.
Tubing
Moonshine Mountain | Hendersonville, NC | ~1 hour from Greenville | $40 | You have to buy tickets at the mountain for this first-come, first-served tubing park.
Black Bear Snow Tubing | Hendersonville, NC | ~1 hour from Greenville | $30-$40 | While this is a snow tubing round up, we think it’s notable that Black Bear also offers summer tubing.
Frozen Falls Tube Park | Sapphire Valley, NC | ~1 hour 30 minutes from Greenville | $35 | You have to purchase your ticket at the Sapphire Valley Community Center for the upcoming weekend, so this one may require some planning in advance.

Civic
Cherrydale Point property owners filed a petition to annex 126+ acres into the City of Greenville. The Planning Commission will make a zoning recommendation on Thursday, Feb. 1, a first reading + public hearing will take place at City Council’s Monday, Feb. 12 meeting, and a final reading is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 26.
Coming Soon
PKL Park will break ground on its pickleball complex + says it expects to open this summer. Right now, the developers are looking for artists to paint four murals on the buildings facing Unity Park. Plus, announcements are coming soon for food concepts with three of four micro-restaurant spaces already leased.
Weather
The Greenville Zoo will be closed Saturday, Jan. 20 + Sunday, Jan. 21 due to the forecasted temperatures. Animals will be moved indoors and monitored by zookeepers and staff.

No. 35. That’s where Greenville ranked on WalletHub’s list of best metro areas for STEM professionals. According to the publication — which looked at 21 data points to craft its list — our city currently has the most STEM job openings per capita.
