🌮 More tacos please

Papi’s Tacos opened a second location and already announced another expansion

This is the kinda news we want to share on National Taco Day. On the heels of opening its second location, Papi’s Tacos already has plans to expand.

Located in the West End at 21 Augusta St. (near Eggs Up Grill), the Mexican restaurant by Jorge “Papi” Barrales Sr. features an expanded menu + a full-service bar.

If you’re a fan of the original RiverPlace location, don’t worry. There are no plans to close anytime soon, but you will see some changes as the restaurant updates its vibe to match the new location.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. Jorge Barrales Jr. — who runs the business with his dad — tells us Papi’s just signed an agreement to take over the storefront next to its new location, the former Hoover Appliance Store.

“We want to honor the history there,” Barrales Jr. tells us of the early plans for the expansion. He referenced The Jones Oyster Co.’s nods to the furniture store that came before it.

We previously told you about a proposal to bring a new Sweet Sippin’ location to that building, but Barrales Jr. says they were offered the building last month, just before opening the new location.

The plan is to expand the bar, add more seating, and keep growing. Plus, you’ll soon be able to enjoy your favorite tacos and cocktails outdoors with large garage doors on the side of the building opening up to green space with tables and a small stage. Barrales Jr. tells us there will be fiestas in the space in the future, and we can’t wait.
